Stopped into a thrift store today with the wife after a doctors appointment. Came across this cool old book. It's called National Service Data book. It was the 1949 book and looked like it covered all makes and models up to 49. It was a good 9+ inches thick. Was this maybe a precursor to the Motors manuals? They wanted $38. If it was a little cheaper I probably would have gotten it. Thought fabo folks would find it interesting. Very detailed sections on ignition systems, brakes, carbs, etc.

I worked part time for a friend at a local thrift store until the store closed in Feb, 2022. We had so much interesting stuff donated. But we pretty much couldn't give away books. I latched on to these for free. Some of the more detailed gun books I gave to a friend.

I remember dad’s old Glenn’s manual when I was a kid. Had a pic of the front of each year vehicle it covered. That’s how I learned to tell the years apart. Would spend hours trying to draw them by hand in a notebook I carried around with that book when we’d visit relatives. Man I miss those days.

They used the same font, layout, and general formatting on those service data blocks through the early '90's. I'm pretty sure they'd still be doing them if it wasn't for going digital.

This car ID book is one I've never seen again. It's how I learned all the old cars and what years they were, when I was a teenager. Car Spotters Encyclopedia.
