O.k. I got my stroker internally balanced, but now do I need a 318/340 Harmonic Balancer, and Flexplate?

Would a stock 318/340 do fine? I'm looking for budget parts now.

Thanks!

Not sure I should answer here... :-D

Yes, you need to get a neutral balance damper, flexplate and converter.

Wouldn't a 318/904 combo including the converter have those neutral balance parts to swap?

Thanks.

Yes, you will need the balancer and converter from a 318 or pre 72 340 the flexplate will be the same. The mid/late 72 and 73 340's were externally balanced and used the 360 balancer and converter.

I would just spend the extra money on new solid parts. A new SFI flexplate is approx. $20, a new SFI dampner is around $90- $160. The cost of the converter will depend on what you need/get. Again, I would just save up and get the right parts the first time.

The externally balanced weightings were.

340 balanced at 4.22 oz

360 balanced at 19.79 oz

The balancer/flywheel/converter weighting were different between the two.

318 parts will interchange, the flexplate is anything you can dig up that isnt B&M, and the convertor should have no weight on the crank hub side of it. (Might have small weights on the perimeter of the trans side if it's a stock unit)

That is correct, I meant to say the 360 "style" balancer. Although I have seen the manual flywheels listed in a few books as the same but I never used one. I've always tossed the 72-73 340 cranks and used a pre 72 steel 318-340 cranks in them.

myasylum, you will be fine using the parts from a 318 on your 360 a used balancer will be also fine, just make sure the rubber isn't dried out or cracking.
