Is this splash shield needed?

I have this splash shield on the slant in my truck (82 D150). Hooks to the oil pump and shields the distributor, I'm guessing, from splashes?

Is it a good idea, bad idea, or no idea at all? I'm wondering if I should reinstall it.

Absolutely yes. Keeps water off the distributor cap.

I just went through this on this board- yeah, clearly keeps the water off the stuffs!

Okey Doke. And thanks. It takes up a fair bit of real estate but if I need clearance I can always remove it for a bit.

Where I live, with the amount of water I get, I can see it being a real issue. Mine has a broken tab, and just bought one off another member here, and giong to also fix the one I have using the good one as a template.

Yep, I toured Chrysler and they even said the same- about how necessary it was as the smallest of the big three. This was before Daimler Chrysler merger.
