I tried to post the video of the start up and break in of my 225 about a week ago and could not get the video to load. Upon advice, I went the route of YouTube. Spent most of my free time this winter building the test stand.
225 .060 over, milled .125, big valves, harden seats, ported head, Hughes cam, lifters and springs, Holley double pump 350cfm, Offey intake. Using the stock exhaust at the moment until I get the right headers. As soon as the break in is complete, I can install the secondary valve springs.

Having some difficulty with the idle. When I dial in the timing, I can't get the idle down below 800 RPMs. The idle screw is backed all the way off. I believe it is the carburetor itself. Holly 350CFM D/P. I have little experience with this type carb. Having to do some reading up on it. I got the carb, from another member. It was supposed to have been rebuilt. My experience has been mostly with AFBs and "Quadrajets."

Check that the distributor sprAngs are not too light and allowing some advance at idle. That can make getting the idle speed the devil to get right.

Is 800 too high? I don’t know /6er’s very well or the cam Norm used (it looks to be a big jump over stock) but in my v-8 car the cam likes an idle of 900 ish

Hi, Norm. You have got a Unicorn cam, there. I was looking on the Hughes website, and they don't list it. Just called Hughes to ask if they had any bigger cams than what was listed and was told they only have a couple of the whiplash cams in stock, and the one on their website is the biggest. They don't even know if they will get any more.

my stock '76 motor idles at 750/100....that big of a cam I'd expect you'd want it idling about 950 anyway.....

Yep! I worked with them on this cam, told them what I was trying to achieve and they had this cam cut for me. It took a long time to get it. They are trying to get me a duplicate "cam card" as I have misplaced the original (it's there, but where???). I have the specs. written down in my notes, and the specs. from the invoice, but I want an original card to re-assure the valve lash. I still have to install the inner valve springs. I'm going to give it a go without pulling the head.

I do believe it will go a little lower. If I go lower by retarding the timing, it doesn't want to start. With the mark dead in the middle of the timing tab, the engine seems happy, responsive and starts good. I have been busy with the other stuff (airplanes) and haven't had a good look at the carb. I've even thought that the secondary's are not closing all of the way. IMHO it is getting enough fuel to allow it to idle at 900 RPMS, so it's getting the fuel from some where.
