We all know about the Pontiac Firebird he drove in the Rockford Files, but as I was watching a You Tube video about James and his wife Lois and their life together, I noticed that, at 1:11 in the video, he and his family are entering/exiting a new 1956 Plymouth Fury.

My dad had one. His was a 3 on the tree. Rare car.

always liked James Garner. The Rockford Files is still one of my most favorite TV series. I think Garner had sued the producers for ripping him off on that series, so, unfortunately, I think that may have something to do with not seeing the series on TV, anymore, and only a few seasons being offered on video. I think his health, and the bad rap for suing, cut short some of his later career.

^^This is what I remember^^ The off road racing Garner was quite a race fan and driver.

Here's a good read:

James Garner: Famous for acting but a racer at heart

When interviewed in 2012 by Car & Driver, Garner was asked, “Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?”

Garner responded, “I’m a country boy out of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl who came to Hollywood, got famous, made some money, travelled the world and met all kinds of people, and had great friends and a wonderful family. Would I have done anything differently? Hell, no!”

As a 9 year old motor head, I remember a kid in my class brought in the 56 Fury booklet and I fell in love with it. His Dad was a Plymouth salesman. I eventually got a 58 Fury with the 350 and 2 4 BBls. Loved that car. I bought it with 72,000 miles and added 75,000 more.

He was a car guy, racecar driver, stunt driver.....so it stands to reason he'd gravitate to some of the best makes. Also, it's really easy to get the complete Rockford Files series. It's all over eBay.

I've always liked him too......even though he was a "proud card carrying liberal" in his words. lol I just watch his movies and stuff for the entertainment factor and tune "all the rest" out. lol

Yep, Still was a great actor in spite of that.

I know he joined us in one of the desert races out in the Mojave in his Olds hot rod. It was blazing fast on those power line roads. :steering:
