LA 318 w/ roller lifters&cam - Waste Of Time?

OK, my decision is made. I am leaving the bottom end alone in my 72 318 with only 84K miles, and dropping in a 318 whiplash cam. I don't have the time or budget at the moment for a complete rebuild.

One question however,
because I also have 360 heads (308 cast) with DP Weiand and 650 eddie, will all those features help me or hinder me slightly, considering the cam I am choosing. I am guessing it is all good.

Actually, one more question,
with 3.23 gears behind my 904 auto, should I also replace my stock converter? Not right away, but eventually.

YES! the more stall speed the better. that combo would love a 3000-3500 stall speed. when it comes to converters you get what you pay for. buy a good one and buy it once.

Whiplash cam , do some work on the 318 heads , or you'll have to shave the 360 heads big ,don't forget to change the timming chain , those plastic gears get eaten driving hard , thermoquad works really well on a 318 , I had an 850 off a 440 on my 318 with cam headrs and shaved heads and it ran with 400 birds and 396 chevs . Car would melt those G-60 bias ply Goodyear tires , also broke 3 71/4 diffs before I put in an 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears .
318 are decent motors , done right they have lots of go . Nothing wrong with them
 
really? 3500 stall?

I thought the whiplash had short durations.

the faster you get the lil teen up in the rmp's the better. they are lacking in torque. i had a 68 318 outta a sattelite in my dart when i daily drove it. had stock bottom end with stock 318 heads shaved .015 with the steel shim head gaskets. had 340 grind cam in it with eddy performer intake and 650 holley. had stock exhaust manifolds that i home ported (poorly done) into 2.5 duel exhaust. had 3.55 rear gear with 26" tall tires. car went 14.40s at 91mph with the stock converter. put in a 3500 coan converter and the car went 13.80s at 93 mph. it layed on its face out of the hole with the stock converter. shifted the car at 5500 rpm.
