I need to replace the plug that goes under rear main cap. Does anyone know what size its supposed to be? I put one in the same size as the two in the front of the engine but it pretty much just fell in place like its slighly too small.

It's supposed to be a Dorman 555-008 plug, which they list as being 9/16" diameter by 1/4" tall.

Cool, I actually had a few of the dorman plugs with the correct part number. I got it in and it fit great. The first one I tried was a 19/32 which is 1/32 larger than the correct one. I guess that was enough to keep it from going to its home.

Another related question. Most plug kits come with the correct style cam plug and also a standard welch type plug. Can these be interchanged?

I've used/found both types in my engines without any problems. I run a bead of sealer around the outer edge of the welch plugs, not sure it's necessary tho.

It was always my thought that the Welch plug might go too far in and contact the cam. I don't know for sure though. I never measured. I just used the proper shallow plug. Silicone around the edge and expand it with a 1/2" drive extension and a hammer.

Have any of you heard of one of these plugs coming off ? I ask because I started my car this morning backed out of garage and noticed two puddles of oil and two streaks following me out. When I parked and shut the car off oil just kept coming out.

thanks
