I have some COMP 901 springs and Lunati retainers I want to use on my factory Magnum heads which currently have stock beehive springs. The 'new' parts are currently on my #302 318 heads with stock valves. I realized the LA and Magnum heads use different size valve stems, so which parts do I need to change to make the swap work? New locks, or retainers, or both?

Unless you have the springs seat machined on the magnum heads the 901 spring has two large an OD. The magnum heads use a spring with a 1.4" OD the 901's are 1.494".

The LA heads have 3/8" diameter valve stems and the magnum 8mm. You will need new retainers and locks.

OK then would it be easier to just get some replacement performance beehive springs for the Magnums? Something like these Hughes Beehive springs?

That looks like the way to go. When I put magnum heads on my 360 the only springs available that would fit the head without extra machining were the two that MP sells and they weren't beehive so retainers were required too.
