I am considering alternatives to my thick wheel spacer / long wheel stud idea of widening the rear tack on my 1973 Duster a bit. An F body 8-1/4" axle would do the job, except for having to relocate the spring mounts. F bodies used those iso-clamps with the big holes in the mounting pad.

So I was wondering, when finding someone to weld the new mounts on, what can I tell them about getting the angle right? Would we put an angle gauge on the U joint yoke and use that to get zero degrees, and weld the new mounts on at that angle, so they are zero degrees along with the U joint yoke?

perches level, pinion 5* up was the factory setting IIRC.

Flip it over and lay perches on top to weld them on without having to hold them, pinion should point 5* down

Also be sure the width is correct AND they are equal spaced from each end of the housing.

You may want to have the housing straightened after welding on the perches
