Ca requires: "The last issued out-of-state registration certificate or current year renewal notice, or a letter, fax, or
wire from the last registration jurisdiction verifying the registered owners name(s) and the vehicle’s last
    registration expiration date."

I'm not sure if this would be a problem on a legit farm truck or barn find unless the vehicle belongs to an estate that is in probate or something. This was my case on a farm truck I was interested in within ca that could only produce a bill of sale from a deceased "family friend" owner. I just wanted it for the straight frame and various parts ..I'd keep the cab and Vin of my truck if the frame was not vin mark matched. It would have to be a real peach for me to try this end around loop hole CF.

Yes, you can. If I get a 1963 Valiant with a GA registration and tag it in Massachusetts, I'll get a MA title for it.

Yes, because Vermont (and a number of other states, including NH, ME, RI, and I think CT) do not title old cars.

This little "snag" actually does not really even matter. There are ways to get around it. There are something like 9-10 forms that you need to fill out with general information and if your car has no papers or previous plates, you can just leave most of the boxes blank. And some of them require one form to be submitted before the other. So you will need to submit them all at once so there are no hiccups. So even though the website says all that, in reality MOST dmv's don't care. just fill out the forms, have your bill of sale, give them their money and they'll title and register anything with a vin.

Correct on no title in CT, but you don’t have to go through emissions, good thing, I’d probably break the machine

      The GA laws did change.

Broadway then changed to use Maine, and then basically fell off the map.

States are absolutely different, but they generally recognize other states legal methods.

FL recently started issuing bonded titles.

      ...with a catch.

The car has to be "last titled" in FL, so that means no out of state cars can get bonded titles in FL.

A bunch of RV and Harleys were registered in Idaho for some legit reason. CA doesn't like that. If it's in CA for more than 30-60 days it has to be registered here. This state sucks in most aspects...but we have good weather.

That CA Dmv form had another interesting tidbit in it. If your car is 76 or newer and propane/cng it still needs to be smogged ? I'm sure it would be a slam dunk but I thought those were exempt as smogging a cng is a waste of time as they burn so clean.

California is not bad- just don’t argue, I bought a 78 dodge pickup- bill of sale went to DMV asked for a trip license had an insurance card $57 and 45 minutes later on the road. Got to Missouri stopped at DMV showed the paperwork paid taxes and fee two weeks later Missouri title. Call it illegal all you want if you don’t act like a criminal or a hothead most people work with you

If you say so. I've seen it tried from other states just like that, and it's shot down every single time.

I've seen people try exactly what you say with different states and Georgia won't do it.

Ok. I gotchya now. BUT bring that same car BACK TO Georgia and sell it to a Georgia resident. They will not be able to get a title. Georgia does not title cars 63 and older.

I have a clean Nebraska title on my 49 Dodge rat truck. Even though it's clean and a signed title, I cannot get a title in my name, all I can do is register it and use a bill of sale from now on. It's stupid, but that's how it is.

Even if you're visiting/working there for a while. I looked that up a while back and was blown away that CA thinks out of town people would register their vehicle there. But that's their policy.

That's fairly common in this area.

Okay- my scenario- it is easy to transfer an out of state title to Hawaii. If you are missing a title, it's impossible to title a car here, we literally have the worst DMV in the nation. They have a backlog of 14000 expirred drivers license alone! Long political story, but anyway, all I need is a title, on any of my junk, and I am moving forward, I have a 1985 Ducati especially want to title, but this won't work for Vermont then? Too old?
