Alright ...sports fans look what surfaced this weekend. This is the block I got from a Hoarder in the Victoria Texas area of the Lone Star state of Texas. Yep I was given this block by a family that has hoarded parts for years as in turn for other parts I brought them multiple LA series engines, transmissions etc.... from cars & trucks I have parted out over the years. I have nothing but the block, no crank rods or anything else. I told them no problem I would get the rest rounded up. So please chime in as i would like to know everything about it. Thanks in advance Texas Red....Gary

The VIN tagged area of the block in front of #1 is not readable... no luck there...
Picture #1- There is a flat machine info block /spot on the block below the casting date This is stamped 0B221101
Picture #2 casting date 11/1969
Picture #3 Car VIN plus block identification
Picture #4 Plant ID

"221101" is the sequence number or the last part of the VIN. The 0 indicates it's for a '70 model car which makes sense for the 11/69 casting date. B is the plant code for Hamtramck, Mi. Could be from an A or E body. You'd need the first 4 letters of the VIN to match it up with a specific car.

Pic. 3 is just the block stamping number, not the VIN.

Pic. 4 is day or night shift.

Other than that, it's a 340 block. What do you want to know about it? Are you looking for a value? You'd have to tell us what the bore size is and whether it's been hurt or whatever.

Hello everyone .. thanks for the info on the engine. What i can tell by cleaning buffing and block deburring today this engine had been worked on by someone in the past as there are punch marks for identification purposes... The previous owner had taken this block freshen up some 4 years ago leaving the block with a .030 bore. It was suggested that i get everything looked at by my machinist.... So here is what's happening
I have 2 trusted machine shops ....both whom, have done work for me in the past with one specializing in what the other does not. starting with a hot tank bath and checks from there. Just like all of you have your machine shop I have mine and I appreciate all the code deciphering. I had given up on the thought of ever coming across a 340 or a 426... just happy to have a chance to build one more. Thanks again Texas Red

Tom Acquiring this block to me was like finding that 426 Hemi covered by a under a tarp under that bench where someone is moving with a sign on the gate that states ...everything must go.... in all honesty I had given up on ever finding one.

The 340 will be a severe duty ready to drop into the Duster with reliability in mind as well as street and drag race without trying to kill the Engine as it will become a standby spare but like every 340 it will need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Enough said....
The 340 will be switched back & forth to my "Shop Run Engine stand" switching places with another already built 1985 360 for obvious reasons of cam break in , Oil leak checks, Any unwelcomed noises etc... common things we want to know prior to installing only to find out what?????????? is happening.... after its already in the hole becoming a spare for my 72 Duster. But even more ........

Here in Texas some school districts still have Automotive Shop class where the class tears down (Mostly 60-70s trucks ) the truck to the frame rebuilding every system on the truck frame including blast & prep, total engine rebuild to body work & paint which look and function like brand new at the end of the school year.
Through contacts various teachers of these classes have asked me to bring my "Run engine stand to their school for educational class purposes plus it will pull double duty being useful for pushing that hot standby engine outside the shop and putting a good 15-20 minute run time on the engine keeping it alive and functional for future use.

I am a huge advocate of getting wrenches in these young peoples hands and take the game boy away from them and smash the ^***ing thing with a 4 lb hammer (Can I get an Amen) and am focused on finishing the run stand for this purpose this next fall..... but cant right now.

AS of this past Thursday morning I was taken to the hospital to have emergency surgery for a double hernia ---one which was obstructing my bowel.....due to trying to be HEE Man once again the night before........ AS my friend said there is not many spare parts left over for old farts these days.......

Yeah my gut hurts but I am out of that stinking place back home doing design work on the 340........Thank you Lord.... NO MORE HEE MAN BS for this cowboy.........
Have the greatest week ever because I am................ Texas Red......... Gary

Pro stock Tom we need to talk. Please PM me Thank you Texas Red
