Hello, and thank you in advance for any help anyone might be able to provide. I am looking for any documentation, or really anything, related to a 69 Barracuda Fastback. The Vin is BH29P9B115705. Here's my story on it:

I bought this 69 Barracuda fastback from a guy in CA/AZ in 2012. He told me he had bought the car at a police auction in Orange County, CA in 2006. He said it was (plus his pictures) mostly stripped ( engine, trans, parts of interior, front fenders were not originals, and had '68 hood) but body was good (no rust found anywhere and only minor dents). He said he thought he had the fender tag and receipt from buying it. So we made a deal on it and he actually delivered it to me in VA (for an additional fee of course) as he and his daughter rode in their RV to a country music festival in TN. When he gave it to me I asked where the fender tag was. He said I haven't had time to look, it's either in the car (full of junk from floor to roof) or it's in my office at my business. He said the build sheet should be in there though somewhere. Well I've stripped the car to a shell and there is no fender tag or build sheet anywhere. I tried to call him a few times after I completed my search. At first he told me he hadn't found the fender tag in his office yet, but would look. After about 4-6 more calls, he no longer answered me by phone or e-mail. So I guess that's a dead end.

I've tried to look it up in the Hamtramack registry and under lost and found on here with no luck. I have is the VIN decoded as:

    B-BARRACUDA

    H-BARRACUDA

    29-2 Dr. Sports Hardtop

    P-340 CI

    9-Model Year

    B-Hamtramack Assembly Plant

115705- Production # (I don't even know how to relate that to date it might have been built)

I am sure the original color was Sunfire Yellow with black deluxe interior (Interior Decor Package or maybe sport package?), Rallye Instrument Cluster (has 150 speedometer but no tach or performance indicator in the middle), Automatic with console and bucket seats (seats were gone when I got it), Front Disc Brakes. The rear is a Sure Grip (I believe either a 3.90 or 4.10 ratio). I would love to find out if this car was a Formula S or at least had the sport package.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the body is so good (I guess being from CA, the body held up well, I wanted to restore it as much as possible to original look, but without really any history to go on, not sure I'll go that route.

    Thanks again guys.

I would register that car and get paperwork in my name before I spent any money on it.

Why wait six years and ask questions? Seems strange.

Oh I got a clear title for it as soon as I got it, so no problem there. I'm just trying to find any historical info I can on it.

Life doesn't always go the way we plan it. My plan was to strip the car down, while I waited for the seller to send me the fender tag as he promised, so I stopped there. I had no idea my wife was going to find someone she liked better than me, and drag me through an expensive divorce. Didn't see a car wreck happening (until it was too late that is) and that I'd lose my house and have to live with my parents for awhile. Then the only house I could buy since my credit was took a big hit, was a fixer upper, which should have been a tear down and start over house. So trying to re-do a house on a limited budget and everything else before it, led to the cuda sitting in my dad's garage this whole time. Now he wants it out and I have to decide on what I'm going to do with it. Which is why I'm just now trying to research it more.

I am restoring a very original '68 cuda, I am lucky- but I feel your pain. Without fender tag, build sheet or window Monroney you can't establish what the car originally had, you can only piece some things together. First off remember that starting in 1968 all major components had the VIN stamped on them- engine, trans and two places on the body. Your 150 MPH speedo was part of the "Rally" package but did not include that center gauge. That was extra, either a vacuum gauge or a tach. Cannot see from photos, do you have the "Deluxe" interior? What rear end? Case #? Start documenting what you do have. You can ask questions on specific items. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I believe it did have the deluxe interior, although the seats had been taken except for one of the bottoms, door panels were gone but it had the wood grain dash. The engine and transmission were gone. Rear end is there, but I have not checked any numbers on it yet. I believe it's an 8 and 3/4" with around a 3.90 to 4.10 gear and is positraction.

            Thanks again.

Is all the upholstery gone? How about back seat, anything to give us a clue? I rag on this because reproduction deluxe interiors are not correct. If we really can't determine what was original, then we should build this any way we want.

The bottom half of rear seat is there, pretty rough shape from CA heat and sun. It is black with (if I remember right, need to get to my dad's garage and do some further checking) it had small square pattern as well as the bottom half of the front seat that was left.

            Thanks again.

If you can provide photos I will try to help. Take your time. My car is a "correct" restoration so am interested in details. You can come close to original if you want. The decisions are yours. What wiper motor does it have? Does the car have a separate "Map light" switch under the dash? These are little things that were part of optional packages.

You could send away to FCA and inquire about your car. They might have something, they may not. I sent whatever the money order was to them and they sent me back some stuff pertaining to my 67, along with my money order back. The ibm punch card is hard to read, but if you can decipher what the columns say you may be able to find what you are after.

            Thanks Murray.

Not sure on wiper motor, have to check on that as well. I don't remember a map light switch under the dash though. The body is actually in really good shape and needs very little work (no rust issues at all though). It's just basically going to need almost everything, so I'll spend a ton on parts. Just was hoping for history to make it more worth spending that kind of money. Thanks again,
            Dan

Hello and thanks. I was told that the IBM punch cards only went until '67. I even called Galen Glover and talked with his assistant today and she confirmed that. She also said Galen's registry didn't have any info on my VIN, so she really couldn't do anything but take my VIN and add it to the registry on the off chance that someone finds records for it. Also, with the Fiat/Chrysler merger, the Chrysler Historical Records were either given away or destroyed as the new owners didn't want to pay to keep that division going. I heard they turned over some records to either a company or an individual at a meet in Carlisle, PA, but I haven't confirmed that.

              Thanks again for your help.

                Hi Alan,

Thanks, but yes I have stripped the car to a bare shell now and no broadcast sheet found in any of the normal spots (or any spot for that matter. I have a feeling it might have been behind the top of the back seat, which was gone when I got it. It wasn't over the glove compartment, under the front carpet, in the headliner, over the gas tank or anything like that.

                Thanks again,
                Dan

Dan, very nice car/rust free body to restore!!!!!
Did u get a rear trunk finish panel with the car? If so is it silver with fish emblem, or black with round Formula-S emblem?
There is NO way to tell 100% what the car was without the fender tag or build sheet. Could be a 340 non-S, 340-S, or even a 340 'cuda package!!!!
Standard rear would be 3.23, the 3.55 and 3.91 was an option, but 4.10 never was. A factory 3.91 gear car is very rare and would be more likely on a 4 speed if at all. 3.91 was only available after a certain time?(i have a factory sheet stating this).
looking forward to more on this car/post............

                Hey Thanks Dave,
I'd be jumping for joy if I had seen a black formula s trunk panel, but if memory serves (and looking at my old pics), there was no panel. Matter of fact if you see some of the rear photos, the guy delivered it from AZ to VA, so he put red/white reflective tape on the trunk finish panel area.
I did the old mark the driveshaft and tires when I first got it, but I couldn't remember if it was just under 4 revolutions or just over. Based on your excellent info, I'll say maybe it's the 3.91, but will double check it when I can dig it out and look at it and other things people have kindly told me what to look for.
                Thanks,
                Dan

                Thanks again,
                Dan

NO, that is a worn down woodgrain wheel! The woodgrain has the metal band in the center, a standard wheel is solid plastic of what ever color, black, blue, red.....

Your steering wheel like said is an option upgrade.

Thanks Dave, another good thing to check when I get over my dad's garage and dig it out.

                  Hey Thanks,

I'll be looking at that too as soon as I can, plus all the other great tips everybody has helped with.
