Lubricate Kickdown

Hello, What's the best way to lubricate a Lokar kickdown cable. I thought I seen on here before there is some fitting you can buy, to help the process. What is the best thing to use? Thanks!

In my own oppinion graphite powder is the very best thing to use (It's not wet, so it does not collect dust)

I like to pull the rubber covers back, then pour some into the cable housing and use air to blow it down through the cable.

My second choice might be a silicone spray.

It sure would benefit Lokar to do this on assembly.
There have been multiple people commenting on thier throttle and TP being really tight after they installed them, but were pleasantly surprised how much better they worked after lubing the cables in the housing.

It seems people on here before have talked about a fitting or something you can buy, that helps get the grease in the cable better. I have the braided ones. Thanks for all the info guys!

Yes, the graphite lube would be good, or a nice "light oil".


Just be careful with silicone. It is very difficult to get off of parts, especially if you are going to paint them. They won't allow silicone lube of any kind in an assembly plant as it is so hard to clean and makes problems for any paint repairs (causes fish eyes).

Maybe use a teflon spray like Tri-Flo(w)?. I've seen it at Ace hardware stores.


Also pay attention to how you route the cable. Sharp bends will make it tighter. Try to use larger radius bends when routing the cables whenever possible. Like porting heads, the more bends you have the more resistance it will have. Straighter is better...

this is what I use on my motorcycles for the brake and clutch cables.

Amazing how much better they work with some lube. I used to do this once a month or so depending on how many dirty rides and wash downs the bikes got.

The other thing I have found with Lokar is the lock nut on the adjustment will guald. A little lube helps there too.
