One time bracket racing my '65 Valiant four-door 273 A833 with 4.56 gears at Fremont Raceway, I experienced a run with a total loss of traction. Really freaked me out.
Parked in the pit area and starting snooping around under the vehicle. That's when I noticed the belts were showing through on the rear tires. They did have little dot's burned into the rubber as a kind of "wear indicator" but I guess I never bothered to inspect them. I don't know how many quarter-mile runs the tires lasted, a lot for sure (used tubes and rim screws). Could not go racing again until another pair were shipped to me via Greyhound. The second pair stayed with the car until I sold it in 1980. (first foto shows street tires and the '70 Challenger rear end).
