I scored a free 4 speed bellhousing, but it has the 4.35 size bearing retainer hole , and I am placing it behind an OD unit with the 5.125 size bearing retainer hole. To make it work, I plan on taking it to a machine shop to have it punched out, but I noticed that the holes that the fork pivot screws to will get wiped out in the process. Do people usually get the holes retapped and drilled in the same degree and orientation as before, or does the new diameter of the hole screw the geometry up?

I will let you know I'm doing one for a friend because he had a 10" 1/2 bell housing and wants to go to a Hemi box in his 68 DART GTS and it has the bigger bearing retainer and that is going to wipe out the pivot bolt holes. I'm thinking just drill and tap new holes by bolting up the transmission with a release bearing on it and clutch fork see were the bracket is going to line up. It my require some welding to build up the area and machining it down so there is a nice flat surface to mount the bracket to and enough meat for the bolts to be tighten down good and tight. Good luck I'll post pictures as I good if that will help

Search bellhousing alignment and if it is out of tolerance you could get it machined offset to eliminate the need for offset bushings.

If you haven't yet, you might try to find out if someone would like to do a swap before you rip and tear.

Passon should have what you need. I just made the same swap but into a scattershield. I had to use a different ball stud mount and different fork pivot mount.
