Looking to protect machined block & components for build till I'm ready to put it together. Temp /Humidity controlled garage . Take an oily rag & wipe down ? . spray with WD 40 ? OR - would just assemble engine - your thoughts & suggestions are appreciated. Thanks all. -Mike

This is my favorite. Spray it and bag it.

i've use WD-40. spray the parts good and wrap in plastic. never had an issue with rust on blocks, cranks.... using WD-40. easy to use and does the job

I'm old school.
Wipe down all machined surfaces with a coat of general purpose grease. Messy, but that's life.
Then bag it, but include either a bunch of dessicant bags or a nylon stocking full of rice. Climate controlled or not, you could still stand a chance of getting some condensation in the bag.

I have a machined 360 block in my non temp/humidity controlled garage that I sprayed with wd40 and wrapped in a trash bag 25 years ago. Still looks brand new every time I check it.

A 40w lightbulb in the block should keep it warm enough to keep the condensation away.

Grease baby. Then more grease. Then the bag. You can never use too much grease on parts that you don't want rust on.

I am with the Professor and all those in favor of grease... get a glove on and buy a tub of grease, every cylinder, every lifter bore cam bearings area.... plus more internal areas with a wooden dowel rod and rag for extended reach, Plus motor oil, ..oily rag everything every part of the engine. I live 40 miles inland on the gulf coast of Texas, I have a spare already machined 360 block waiting in the wings inside of 4 engine bags under the bench. zero rust issues.......... Ill be checking out Rusty Rat Rods fluid film
LPS III is good spray can for smaller parts and was used in the refinery..... machinist used it quite often as I recall . Texas Red
