How important is it to you? I have been seeing Buy American slogans and signs for decades. I feel it’s a constant battle to get people to make that choice.

In daily life I am passive about it but when it comes to buying parts for my older American cars I always try to choose the Made in USA option. Example, headers. I am looking at Doug’s and TTi largely due to, both shorty and long tube header, recommendations on this site always points to those two.

I know that TTi makes their headers right here in SoCal but after a little research I found that Doug’s are welded up by our fine neighbors to the south at the Pertronix exhaust facility where they also make Patriot headers and, believe it or not, JBA.

Before I learned this I was leaning toward Doug’s because of cost and I read that the fitment is fine. Now, I’m leaning toward TTi for the sole reason of being made in the USA but hundreds more.

So this is not a “What fits?” post. Is this even an ethical dilemma? It’s not like Doug’s is Chinese made (who I think is an enemy of the United States, just my opinion). I’m a combat veteran and was willing to die for my fellow countrymen so, in my head, I should be willing to lay my dollars down for my countrymen. Am I being unreasonable in this global economy of ours? Should I even care? What’s it going to do, shame Pertronix into bringing manufacturing back to the USA?

When it comes to batteries am I going buy an Odyssey (made in Missouri) or an Optima (which are now manufactured in Mexico)? When do you say “Fug-it, Earth’s about to get hit by a planet killer. Nothing matters anyway!”

Opinions? Thoughts? What do you do?

Thats a tough dilemma to decide with so many different things made in china. Some of those relabeled to make it look as if they were made here. I try no tto purchase from companies in communist states which limits your choices for things like headers and roll cages for example. How much more will I spend? Depends on how much better the quality of the US made product is.

I always feel good when I support a USA company but wish it was easier.

I take buying American to an extreme.
Living in this country has blessed me with rights, freedoms and privileges that I could have nowhere else on earth. I feel duty bound to buy products made in
America, or next best, by her historical allies. I've been called stupid for this attitude by people who I consider to take being American for granted. I don't care if they disagree with me. They can eff off.

As pointed out, many things are made elsewhere. Some made in the good ol US of A and some assembled there. I try to /hope to get a better part that’s made in the States and Canada. There is less and less being made in our home countries. Almost any electronic part is foreign. Some are reboxed to look like their made in USA or Canada. Kim

didn't read all post. I buy "made in America" when I can, even if it's a little more money. No, I don't look at every package when I'm out and about.

                        Hey go-fish -
I agree with your post 100%. I always do my best to source USA-mfg. parts.
If you're going to buy TTI headers, try to purchase them at either the Spring Fling or Fall Fling events. TTI is always in attendance and usually runs a 'show special' discount.
In your post you mentioned "right here in SoCal"...where in SoCal?

I try to, when I can.

But since I already spend 40%+ of my income paying US taxes...I’m not inclined to pay much extra for “made in the USA” if the quality isn’t equivalent or better enough to justify the higher cost.

Manufacturers have to understand that “Made in the USA” still means being competitive on quality and price too.

So I know how many small towns Walmarts has devastated, how many older cities have dead downtowns because of them. I work in America and I don't mind paying a little more to employ my neighbors. Anything else is going to land this in the political forum!

They manufacture them right there in the Inland Empire (Corona).

I called them yesterday and the kind lady said they only take orders at the Flings and process the order when the reps get back to work. They had some theft some years back and quit bringing inventory. The reps that attend the show take headers examples only and drive their own vehicles so they won’t even deliver parts to you at the Fling. They give a 10% discount on orders from the show.

As indicated by this thread I started I am the type of person that reads the nutrition label on food before I buy and same goes for being on the lookout for "Made in China". When the economy starts back up are you going to be on the lookout?

Speaking of which, anybody still making parts purchases? I am waiting for some Covid driven sales. I am needing to make a few purchases to make my Cuda a runner and have a couple >$500 purchases. Are prices going to fall? Availability dry up?

I just called them, the guy wouldn't say where they were made beyond, "They are cast overseas but machined in house. The only ones made 100% in the US are the billet cranks." Damn, I just don't have that kind of scratch. Looks like I won't be going with an internally balanced 3.580" crank...

C Pearce has a new made in the USA crank for sale. It’s anMP forged crank. Kim

I really should have included Made in North America. I have high hopes for the new trade deal for Mexico, Canada, and the US. I would much rather see product labels with a North American country of origin but overall just a non-communist country of origin would be great.

                                      Very important topic
Made in the USA should be top priority for all Americans.
I have taken the pledge to no longer knowingly purchase Chinese products.
I dont care if I have to go with out of pay more$.

I wondered when that would be asked. Nowadays it can’t be helped. The foreigners have a hand in almost anything we buy. Not just the Chinese or Japanese either. And just cause it’s made or assambled in USA or Canada doesn’t mean foreigners didn’t have a hand it that process either. Well I looked over my Dell laptop and it does not show the country of origin - if it's China it will be the last

I have a running challenge going on over on the B body side-

Find a USA made computer with USA parts.

One person accepted the challenge and returned four links.

None were made with USA parts.

                                          None.

One link was to apple that is "working on" a USA made product.
