OK, I dropped a bone stock magnum in my four speed Dart.
One fishtail later and the motor's limping. I didn't think about the rev limit on stock 5.9's and valves paid the price.

I have a set of OLD OEM magnum heads to go back on to get this car running. What valvesprings can I stuff in there that will tolerate 6500 rpm and not break the bank. Will be a stock cam for now. I'll upgrade to Ed heads or similar when the cam gets upgraded. Car is a street car, would be driven daily and thrashed on regularly.

Yes, EQ heads are better. I'm on a budget and already have these heads.
Thanks FABO!

Looking up numbers. Be right back.

The oem springs are a slight beehive design so if you replace them you also need to replace the retainers and keepers. The 'How to build big inch Mopar small blocks" book has a section on Magnum head conversions. Jim recommends these Mopar Performance parts.
Springs: P5249464
Retainers: P4452032
Keepers: P4529218

All are still available through Summit for about $450. I was going to do a Magnum head swap on a 318 a few years back and decided to go a different way. I have those parts. Check them out on Summit's site and PM me if you are interested.

Mucho Gracias!

The Hughes spring kit was $203. you'd be taking a beating to go that low!

Yes I would but that's the way it goes. $150 in my pocket is better than nothing. I sold off all the other parts. Except for what I listed above, I only have a pair of heads left. They will sell the next swap meet I go to.

I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong here but the stock oiling system for the Magnum may become your new bottleneck before revving over 6k.

How much camshaft, and intake flow. ? A Kevco pan ,and match oil pick up ,is good to mid 11's,and 118 trap speeds ..
