Missing something?

Is my steering column missing something to center the shaft on the housing? or is it normal for it to float like it is. I believe the gear selector leg was removed just not sure if that's what centers the shaft or if it's lacking another bushing or something. Thank you

Most have a bushing to center the shaft, but I think some didn't. Wait for others to reply.

Sorry, yeah it's a 1971 Demon. Column was for Auto. Vehicle being converted to manual transmission. Thanks

That looks like it might be the missing piece. Not sure I've already seen some rebuilt assemblies online with the same empty space as mine. Another Mopar mystery

Bearing is gone
pop that wire clip off and extract the plastic piece. Then you will see what's missing.
But really, for a manual trans application, that bearing doesn't hardly do more than keep bugs out and maybe some heat.

Awesome solution unfortunately my column is different. Mine has a collar between the flange and the shaft. That’s the space I’m concerned with. The space between the 35mm opening and the 1” shaft. But that’s a great solution to my issue if I can find a bearing with my needed dimensions.
