can anybody tell me of somone that was running theese crankshafts back in the day? i have also got a set of diamond pistons 3.94 bore .927 pin but std rod journal. this stuff is all new never ran. makes 288ci. 2900 lb a body with w2's 9,000 rpm oh yeah!

If you stick that crank in a 340 you end up the SCCA Trans Am race engine size (303.6), which are screamin engines! With W2s it would out do those engines.

back in the day engines had to be under 305 ci to race. The 340 was too big so a shorter crank was used to get the ci down.

Funny how nobody sleeved those 340's and used smaller pistons to get more stroke ? rpm's ruled back then, still does. The shorter the stroke the more rpm's a engine can turn. Engines are air pumps, turn them faster they pump more air.

Wounder what those long gone racers would have thought of today's 4 inch stroke cranks, LOL

Those 8K-9K rpm motors had race budgets, full teams, extra motors, and staff at the race shop to maintain their motors.

And they still broke a lot of motors in 1970 trans am. RPM is tough $$$ on valvetrain.

It was at legends of motorsport races at le Circuit Mnont Tremblant , lots of other Trans am cars from the 60-70's , Penske Sunoco Camaro , Genesee Camaro a ton of Mustangs , but just one Dart and one Challanger . Have a few more videos of cars running down track and a few pics of the other cars . Was a GREAT weekend of racing .
Here is a link of competitors , let me know if you want to see the few pics I have , only Camaro Stang , Cobra , F-1 and Can-Am cars though , only mopars I shot you saw .

I'm still wondering how these guys pay for it ! They had crews Kenworth tractor trailers , some had huge motor home tent set ups and they race balls to the wall , a few toasted motors over the weekend ! They are either billionares racing for the fun , have big sponsors , or they just don't give a F and put every penny into the car and race . Man it takes a HUGE budget to run , and they came from all around the US and europe !
event photos from le cirvuit , I have others but they had camera men EVERYWHERE !!

Here is a Camaro running before the race , ear shattering when close by

If the pistons and crank came together, the combo could have been a Modified Production engine in drag racing which car weight was based on pounds per cubic inches. The high 200 c.i. range was a popular size.

If the pistons are made for an OEM stroke 318/340 @ 3.31", you'll lose a lot of compression.

Those people all have BIG bucks. Many are "arrive and drive". Meaning thier cars is housed and maintained by a private race service and the car is delivered to the track prepped and ready. They just bring thier helmet and jump in. Most the cars don't get the prep and fine tuning that a real competitive race car will. The crews aren't that big for the amount of cars they watch over.

Also, those vintage classes don't have much for enforced rules. Many of them run "big" motors.

And that's nothing. We just rent circle track Nascar cars to teenagers less than six figures (but well on the closer side) a season when you figure their damage repairs.

the pistons are for a 288ci they have a 2.00 compression height. use a stock lenth rod. looks like you would have to squeeze things pretty good to get over 11.1 compression. the bigger bore would look to be a better deal. if i ever do anything with this i'll have to have a 8 bolt flywheel. we had a lbs/per ci track in bethany mo that has closed. would love to had this combo back then.

So for a couple of hundred grand I can rent NASCAR ride for a season ? Really ? I figure some of the teams here at this race were spending that on the weekend . They had 8 or 9 in the crew K W or Pete tractor trailer , Motor-home with tent , computers , tires fuel spare motors accommodations for crew(pit babes ) , I figured 30 - 50 k low side .
Most these teams were doing some serious wrenching between races .
Going to have to do this at least once before I die .
