Mopar battery dress up kits and cap color chart

Here's some slick kits to make your Parts store battery look like a original Mopar one. I bought a Everstart from Wal Mart that had smooth sides and top.
The kits are shipped from Belgium so they will take a while to get there.

UPDATE 1/22. they also have embossed plastic "Mopar" side plates for that original look!

Here's a chart:

Green Caps:

• 1966-1969 with 225, 273, and 318 engines and 48 amp alternator
• 1968-1969 with 340 engines and 48 amp alternator
• 1970-1973 with 225, 318, and 340 engines and 46 amp alternator
• 1973 with 400 engines and 59 amp alternator
• 1974 with 225 and 318 engines and 48 amp alternator

Yellow Caps:

• 1966 with 361 engines and 59 amp alternator
• 1967-1971 with 383 engines and 59 amp alternator
• 1970 with 318 and 340 engines and 59 amp alternator
• 1971 with 360 engines and 59 amp alternator
• 1972 with 400 engines and 59 amp alternator

Red Caps:

• 1966 with 383, 440 and 426 Hemi engines and 70 amp alternator
• 1966-1972 Police Units with 70 amp alternator
• 1967-1971 with 440 and 426 Hemi engines and 70 amp alternator
• 1972 with 440 engine and 70 amp alternator
• 1973 with 440 engine and 70 amp alternator
• 1974 with 400 or 440 engine and 70 amp alternator

I think I saw that the caps are push in's to replace the 3 cell rectangular caps on most batteries now days. I saw glue on caps in a description as well. Probably for the non acid maintence free batteries.

The eBay link also shows some fire extinguisher sticker labels that look pretty cool - but I question the judgement of replacing fire extinguisher content information

Yes, the newer batteries have 3 hole vent caps on them. Not screw on but push on's.

Charts and books only go to 74 I see. You might have to do some digging on the Hamtramck site to find out. Yellow or green and probably green.

Yea I can never find anything information wise for 75s even parts I know that will fit will be listed to 74 I dont understand that

True that. From what I see, most of the colors follow these guidelines. There are exceptions.
/6 and small block-24 series - Green
Big block- 24 series - Yellow
Big block and HD-27 series - Red

Yeah, I got the stick on cap kit for my maintenance free battery from NAPA. I didn't use the OEM correct colors, though. I used the red decal/cap kit to match my red car. <g>

Just finished up mine. Getting the glue residue off was the hardest part with the old stickers. I went with yellow since you couldn't get a 340 in a 1971 Dart unless it was one of the few Canadian built cars plus my car is far from OEM.
