Mopar Heads 'Just Wondering' What Was The Best Chevy Street Performer You Ever Owned
it was a field car which i learned to drive in .... leaving cow pies everywhere
I had an 87 Firebird, 305, AT - pulled the motor and trans - swapped in a warmed up Chevy 350 (intake, 4 barrel, double roller timing chain, better oil pump and headers with bigger exhaust) and a new street build 700R4 with a Corvette servo. Swapped the wheels for a set of GTA wheels and BFG 50's on all four corners, reconfigured an under hood triangle brace to fit over the non-EFI, AC equipped engine and installed sub-frame connectors.. that car was surprisingly fast... for a mid 80's Firebird.. it handled well and when I mashed the go pedal, it would "jump up" pretty good through 1st and when it banged 2nd the tires would chirp and the car would side step a bit - it was fun to hammer on.
1969 Nova 350 4BBL stock 12.9 1/4 mile daily driver.
Still own this one. 39 years now. Bought it when I was 19. Couldn't afford it if I had to buy it in todays market. Original 315hp Fuelie, 4spd, HD brake, radio delete car. Never got the original engine with the car. Has a 383 stroker, making around 475 hp. A real blast to drive. restored the car myself 30yrs ago. I have since, found a correct numbered 283 short block and correct heads, and the correct Fuelie Doghouse and distributor. The car will be due for a repaint soon, and I will put all the Fuelie stuff in then. Have still always had Mopars. Although I did sell a 69 A12 Bee in 1977 for 3k to buy this Corvette. Don't Hate on me.
'74 Stingray I just sold to buy my 'Cuda..... Had a 460HP 383 stroker....that thing would scoot!!!!!! :coffee2:
Only chevy I've ever owned was an 85 s-10. Worst vehicle I've ever owned bar none. I have had a few decent buick/olds/pontiacs, though. My favorite was probably the 66 olds 98 with a 10.25:1 425 and posi rear.
Very Nice !!
1968 Chevelle SS 396, aluminum 4-speed, fibre optics. Top speed at redline...103mph.
Had two I liked, When I was 18 it was a 1962 Impala coupe SS 409 4 speed with tri power on it when I bought it. Took the vacume carb linkage off and put on mechanical carb linkage-hold on to your ass! Black on red with bucket seats-still miss it. The other was a one-owner 1955 Bel-Air coupe. Born with a 265 power-pac 4V 3 speed with OD. I rebuilt that one ground up-finished as a 327 4V 4 speed on floor with gunmetal grey Imron paint that I did and metallic blue tuck & rolled interior that the upholstry shop did. Couldn't afford either one today-glad to have my Notch and won't do any more chevys. There were more but not worth listing here. DR=:coffee2:
In high school I had a 64' Chevy stepside with a 400sb/350t running through a 12 bolt out back. It wasn't the fastest thing but I drove it daily and it never broke anything and it took a pounding.
Had 2 '85 montecarlo s.s.'s one white one burgundy loved those cars..
52 chevy truck on a 84 pontiac wagon frame and suspension (how ever it is spelled) 350 small block out of a 78 truck. back in 1992 till 96 ... great driver for sure
53 Chevy Bel Aire....4 door....230 6 banger...powerglide... best performance was in the back seat at the drive in......lol
Not a Chevy but the wife had a '72 Olds Cutlass w/a 350 that was a nice performer and would drive awesome. All Chevy engines have died under the weight of my right foot. All MoPar engines bark back, "How high?" When I say jump! And never have ever let me down.
65 396 nova. WOW! Crazy car, in 1977.
Had a 1989 IROC Z Camaro when I was 16. 350 TPI 700R4, 4 wheel disc breaks, limited slip rear, t tops, and grey leather interior. Was about as highly optioned as you could get one. I did all the bolt on mods: headers, catback exhaust, computer tuner, bigger throttle body and intake runners. Was a Mustang 5.0 eater. Loved that car but it got stolen from me my Freshman year of college. The only non Mopar I ever owned.
1967 firebird 400 4spd. 65 GTO 389 tri-power 4spd. Had many others but these were by far the the most fun with the old Bias ply tires that they came with.
Mine was a Chevelle "Heavy Chevy" 350 LTI balanced and blueprinted solid cam and lifters, headers, high stall converter, shift kit, 4:11 gears etc etc the guy that built it worked at a GM dealership and got all the parts wholesale and built it with all the right performance parts it was the fastest car I have owned so far
only one sold in my neck of the woods as an opel kadett that counts, no?
I had a 69 Nova that was an original 4 cylinder car. Engine was long gone when I got it, so I found a 396 and blueprinted a stone stock 350 HP 396 for it. Turbo 350, 3.23 gears. It was quite snappy for an everyday driver.
I learned something today :glasses7: never knew the 69 Nova was offered with a 4 banger :glasses7:
Yup. Same engine as the 153 Mercruiser. Not a whole lot were made.
87 Buick Grand National. Great cruiser with good performance.
I had an '87 Chevy Celebrity that was a hand-me-down from my parents - first, last, and only Chevy I ever owned. It had the 2.5L four banger, lost the cam gear cruising the interstate at about 70mph, completely trashed the engine internally when that happened (bent valves, pushrods, hole in a piston, etc.).
