Had a 78 Monza back in the day with a 305. Pulled the 305 and put a small block 400 in with a vaga wagon gear set. Used to work at a wrecking yard and good thing cuz monday mornings I needed another set of rear tires.

In 1977 bought a 1967 Camaro SS350, powerglide, a/c, p/s, p/b, hideaway headlights, front disc brakes, chrome air cleaner and valve covers, for $500. Sold it in 1982 for $1,000. Should have kept it.
Also in the same year bought a 1966 El Camino 283 4BBL, powerglide, a/c, p/b, p/s for $250 as an estate sale. It was my parts/stuff hauler. Sold it to my brother in 1982. It is rotting away on the side of his house since 1991. He won't sell it back to me or do anything with it.

Both were good cars with the Fisher Body rattles. Neither was as much fun as my 1964 Dodge Polara 500 361 4 speed.

Had two I liked, When I was 18 it was a 1962 Impala coupe SS 409 4 speed with tri power on it when I bought it. Took the vacume carb linkage off and put on mechanical carb linkage-hold on to your ***! Black on red with bucket seats-still miss it. The other was a one-owner 1955 Bel-Air coupe. Born with a 265 power-pac 4V 3 speed with OD. I rebuilt that one ground up-finished as a 327 4V 4 speed on floor with gunmetal grey Imron paint that I did and metallic blue tuck & rolled interior that the upholstry shop did. Couldn't afford either one today-glad to have my Notch and won't do any more chevys. There were more but not worth listing here.
DR=:coffee2:

Loved those 409's.

I've never really owned anything but Mopar. Had a celebrity or some such for ten minutes. Bought it for $50 for the tires, and traded the carcass to a guy to have him put the tires on a valiant.

In 88 came across a 75 nova with a bad engine, dropped in a 10.1 AFR headed 350 and rebuilt trans. Ugly as sin, unassuming, and a whole lotta fun.

I did have a 70 model C/10 long bed about 8 years ago. It had the 270 horse 350, NP 435 and dana 60 with 4.10 gears.

Funny story with that truck. We were comin back home down the main highway out here in the country. There was this oh I reckon about an 89 or so Vette behind me. He kept getting too close. So I just stood in it. I actually started pullin away a little. Anyway, we got to a passin lane and I slacked off and let him by.

Soon as he passed me, I got right back in it again. We got up to about 110 and I backed out. But he could not pull away from me to save his *** and I know it had to piss him off. LOL That big old 3/4 ton had his name in the front bumper. LMAO

:burnout:

1966 impala super sport/sports roof //L72 (427) yeah they say they weren't made// but I do remember changing the oil when the lifters rattled and adjusting the rockers when I bent push rods/ 4sp// sold it when i went into the military//Dad would not store it for me / I was a dumb kid !!! my buddy had a 1970 Buick la saber 2 door with a 455 and was the only one to beat me or buy me a drink !:banghead::violent1:#-o

Owned quite a few bowtie products. Fastest was a 1969 Camaro, which I got in the early 80's as a very clean, totally stock (medium green ext/black interior, 14" Rally rims), 307/Powerglide car with A/C. Of course, being young and lacking the wisdom I know have, I immediately began modifying it. When I finally sold it 10+ years later, it had a solid lifter 406 with ported double hump heads, tunnel ram with two Holley 600 carbs, powerglide with 3500 stall, 4.10 posi, 28 x 10 slicks, and of course, no A/C. Very quick and won a lot of street races, but now I wish I had it back like it was when I bought it!

1964 Corvette Roadster
327 c.i.
365 h.p.
Aluminum intake
Holley four barrel
Solid lifter 30-30 Duntov cam
4-speed
Lift off hard top and soft top
Power windows

All stock....ran really good

70 & 68 El Camino's( 500 horse 396/4500 stall/4:10's) 75 Camaro 350 (,heated up)th350/3:42 ten bolt.72 Formula 400 Firebird( blueprinted bottom end/swapped to 16 head castings/108 l.c. 229-237 @ .050 Crower stock intake /headers) The Firebird was by far the best street car. El Camino's were quick,obviously more maintenance. If I did one more GM,either a 67-69 GTO/Le Mans,or a 68-72 Nova.

My Turn

The Summer of 1971

For Sale

1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray {convertible}

327/375 HP 'Fuel Injection'

Milano Maroon w/Black Rag Top

Cragar S/S Wheels {15" x 6"} all around.

The Rochester Ram-Jet Fuel Injection unit was 'brand new', and dialed in.
The Corvette had come through with 4.56 Gears and a Close-Ratio 4-Speed.

The one issue, the Rear-End {Independent} was blown to 'Smithereens'.

For Sale .......... $2000

I got the Corvette for $1800

I think it cost me $600 to have a new Rear-End unit installed back then.

Once it was together, that Corvette was an out-right A-N-I-M-A-L.

Winter came in December 1971. Corvette Sting Ray's are useless in the Northeast.

Goom-Bye !

Beginning with my first vehicle in the fall 0f '68, a 66 A100, I have owned a lot of Mopars and a lot of Chevys.

In '72 bought a '63 Nova wagon for $10 with blown up 6. Got a complete fully dressed 283 2bbl including the bellhousing clutch and flywheel from the junkyard for $50. Junkyard bucket seats, 14 inch wheels, Mopar radiator, all for $40. Splurged on a new Hurst shifter for $60. Got it on the road for $200, good car, drove it everywhere, got 20mpg on highway.

Built another $10 '63 nova for my brother, a 2dr sedan. His got a hot 327, $60 set of forged 11:1 pistons, $100 on sale Crane solid lifter cam and kit, used 2.02 heads, used Edelbrock manifold, used Holley 780, $75 new Lakewood housing, used steel flywheel and heavy clutch, M22 4sp with Hurst super shifter that we had, 5:38 gears that we had. That car was a LOT of fun, could not jump on it from a dead stop, but from a rolling start, hang on!

In '95 built a '85 S10 V8, warmed up 355, same M22 as in the '63 Nova, found an adapter to mate Muncie to S10 transfer case. Still had the open 3:42 S10 axle, so again could not jump on it from standing start, took it to the track once, even with just driving it off the line it went 100mph in the quarter, just shifting from 3rd to 4th at finish line. Discovered it would go a lot faster than I wanted to drive it. Drove it year round for 3 years, ended up parking it because of serious rustout in cab.

Had a '66 Chevelle Malibu, originally a straight 6/pg and swapped to a 400 sb/th350. Made all the rookie mistakes - too big a cam, no stall, 3.08 gears, huge tires. Was a dog from the lights but once it got rollin it ran pretty good.
