i installed a 2x1 offy and some short tube headers, got the thing tuned running amazing but it feels a little off. i know its a slant but it feels slow for a slant. old crackhead coworker suggested less gas and to check timing, timings on the dot and i got both carter bbs 3,1/4 turn out on the fuel mixture. the other screws im not sure on but im wondering where to start so i can smoke my tires off here soon.
Ok, I'll try to state what others are stating here, and I'll try not to be a dick. You do the same and we'll get along great.
OP, what the guys in the thread are saying is, you need to actually go back, do the difficult thing, and actually
check the things they're asking you about, and this is a good example. Vacuum isn't 'good', nor is it 'bad'. He's looking for a number, at an RPM, with the driving condition. It's X inches at 3000 RPM at 150mph. If I ask you to check a fuse or an alternator, I don't want to hear 'it's good'. I want to know what the resistance measurement of the fuse was, or, what the output voltage measurement of the alternator was, etc.
When it comes to vacuum, let's say you have 30 inches of vacuum. If you have a drag race huge overlap cam and it's idling at 200 rpm, something is wrong.
Same for timing. There's a lot more than timing 'on the dot'. Google 'cam degreeing'. You can line up the dots on the cam and be WAY off.
Same for ignition timing. There's timing advance, initial timing, vacuum advance, etc. and etc. We need
numbers and how/when you got those numbers, not 'yeah yeah it's fine'. 50 degrees of timing is WAY different at idle than it is at 60mph cruise. One is OK, one is very very not ok.
When you pay a guy to tune your car, he shouldn't be going, 'yeah this or that is good'. He should be saying stuff like, this measured at X, that measured at Y, and that
should be closer to Z.
These guys are smarting off to you because you're not pickup up what they're laying down (and what they're doing isn't right, either), but I can tell you right now that you will NOT find more knowledgeable people for what you're asking. Some of the people on this site are writing the magazine articles and conducting the YouTube videos that you're finding and trying to learn from.
I'm not trying to be mean here, but you've got to modify your approach a little and try to understand what they're asking you. I don't know you from Adam and I can tell from here that you're still kinda new to this. Be nice, apologize when needed (and you KNOW when that is), and if you don't know, just say, "I'm not sure what you mean, can you please elaborate?". THAT is how you will get ahead in life. Not by ****-talking people because they're banging their heads against a wall while
they're trying to help you.
