Just finished installing a new complete msd ignition any recommendations for timing
340 10.5-1 compression ratio 904 transmission 8 3/4 373 gear
Thank you Harold

Total timing 32 to 34 degres most likely will work

Should all be in around 3000 rpm

340 11.3 comp. M1 intake 750 holly,Factory 1970 iron head, home ported, it flowed 243 cfm intake, 2.05 intake valve, mopar 528 lift solid cam. This engine liked 36* no more no less. It also ran 11.60 in a 2900 lb duster. These numbers are never written in stone. Start at 32* and bump it up a notch at a time and see what works best for yours.

Anywhere from 15-36 initial/lock out depending on camshaft.

Total from 32-36 ish as a guess.

It's a minimum two piece game, using only total timing is a horrible way to time a street car.

If you need a limiter bushing that provides less mechanical advance, I have them available.

I'd get it all in by 2500. Does it have a vacuum can on it? If not, get it in by 2000.
Are u guys running this timing w/ the dog piss gas we have now, or better gas than 91 pump ?? These suggestions are about what we ran back in the day w/ good gas .----------???

Pump gas. I'm at a measured 11:1 and I lock out my distributor.

My 340 10-1 93 octane, static compression 8.3 dynamic ratio, XS274S SFT cam, 904 transmission 8 3/4 410 gear. 27* initial, 34* mechanical, 45* vacuum advance at highway cruise. I spent a lot of time dialing in the carb and ignition curve to haul a$$. I'm also at sea level. Start conservative and run as much timing as you can without pinging.

Timing all over the map is an understatement. I just dyno'd a 408 10.1/1 motor with eq heads and an airgap intake. Started at 34 total, made best at 30 total! Now all i need do is figure out enitial and rate,,,,,

I`ve been running my 10.3/roller cammed/aum. headed/505" wedge at 21 initial,(just recently bumped it to 22) , 34 in at 3400, and 44 cruising. I was wondering about bringing it in faster w/ the 91/ non ethanol lawnmower gas we use now. Also about upping the 44 a little. No pinging that I`M AWARE OF, but the things loud enough I might not hear it (I`m not the best hearing old man on the planet).

Mine may not need as much initial and a quick advance, si. nce it has a double quench chamber and only needs 30 total. I may try 18 initial and 30 total in by 2800 since my converter is about 3200.
