My problem is that I was brought up in that when I was injured I just rubbed some dirt on it and keep working. How stupid is that? My old man was a tough cut of meat. I'm now telling my children to take care of themselves and get any injury's fixed right away which they are.

I only take percs(maybe 3 a month) when absolutely necessary, which when the back goes out, its necessary. Lori pretty much forced me to take them when needed. NO constipation issues here lol. Check out Diclofenac.

I have lower back px on and off since 19 when I was washing the dog, bent over for too long and WHAMMO! lower left never been the same. Doc says no structural damage. So I got it easy compared to you guys. Now the older fella next door has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is fairly active and thought the lower back px he was experiencing was just from his daily routine of taking care of his chores and just being old. Well it was that he had prostate cancer plus his usual px. Moral of the story here is, yes, you have back pain, and you have something that can disguise and hide another type of pain. so go get your stubborn ass (literally) checked on a regular basis. Yes you have back px, but right now you have back pain without chemo, dont be a statistical dumb ass. If you are over 50 get your ass checked!

I've offered on here myself up for prostate checks, so far no takers.
Is there "etiquette" involved?(shave ass hair?)

I'm with you. I cannot STAND pills. I'm considering a steroid shot for my neck. We'll see.

They wanted to inject some stuff into my back to hopefully kill the pain, it was pretty bad. But after I was given Lyrica for my foot nerve problems I found that the Lyrica has pretty much killed most of my back pain!! I cancelled the injection appointment, they had planned to sedate me for the procedure (must be painful??). Anyway, I feel much better now and am able to do almost anything.

FYI - The same doctor had given me pain pills (narcotics), I've never had to take them.

I don't know what that was, but what they're tellin me is, the steroid will "cool the area off" and maybe give it time to heal. My chiropractor is really, REALLY good and he's kinda endosrin it so I'm thinkin about it.

Lyrica blocks the pain signals to your brain just like alcohol. I was afraid to get the injection because if the doctor makes one mistake during the procedure it can mess me up even worse. The Chiropractor is afraid to ajust my lower back because of the vertebra parts being not present since birth (malformation).

Correct. I wonder how long those effects last? My doc says they are temporary and last a year at the absolute best. Worst, they don't work at all.

I've been on it for about 2 months and it's still very effective. FYI - My doctor told me that the back injection might/could last 1 week or 6 months. No need for sedation with the Lyrica....doesn't seem to be additive (for me anyway). If I happen to miss a dose I have no reaction.

I blew the disk at L5-S1 junction. Not sure how/when it happened, kinda snuck up on me. Full impingement on the spinal cord. Couldn't feel my left foot of nearly two years, constant pain sitting or standing. Hated the pain meds and quit taking them after a week. Went to spinal specialist and got the MRI to figure out what it was. Started PT and made some progress but then stalled out. I DID NOT want any kind of fusion surgery so I got two epidurals 3 months apart and that took care of 90% of the pain by reducing the swelling. Still got to be very careful how I move, lift, or sit. Losing weight helps a lot and it is all about core strength to stabilize the spine and provide separation and not rely on the disks. I'm 55 now and pretty active with golf, bowling, softball and competition shooting but I get by pretty well for an old(er) fart.

Oh boy I feel for you and can relate. I had back surgery and ended up with M.R.S.A. from it. They had to go back in and did a lot of clean up / slice and dice I guess you can call it. To make the story shorter some of the meds they gave me crystallized tendonitis. I have had both my achilles tendons replaced and both my hands worked on because of it. I'm 61 years old and still working on cars full time. What I'm trying to say is would I do it again? YES! I've been through hell but nothing is worse then the back pain. I will have to deal with M.R.S.A for ever but I was ready to kill myself over the constant back pain I was going through. Not all people will have the problems I did but do yourself a favor and see a back doctor. I do not blame the Dr. at all. Operations a always a risk you take.

I learned this a while back, and try to remind myself of it often- every one pound of extra weight in the belly area adds three pounds of pressure to the spine. Most (not all) of the guys complaining of back pain are over weight. So we have to exercise to protect the back, and eat sensibly. Good luck to us. We just keep eating wings, pizza, and other bad stuff, and then we don't strengthen are core muscles.

Is the pain right in the middle like spinal / disc pain, or off to one side right above a butt cheek? If it's off to the side and lower, you might ought to see a good massage therapist. I had what I thought was back trouble for years, and some of the worst pain would randomly pop up when I was straightening up from tieing my shoes. Turned out to be a severely pulled muscle that would never heal completely. I was going to physical therapy, and a new therapist asked if she could try something, since she was also a licensed massage therapist. She had me lay on my stomach and went to work on it, and in 5 minutes I was good as new! Not gonna lie....it hurt like a S.O.B. when she first got started! After she got the knot worked out of the muscle, the pain eased up and just went away.

I ruptured my L5 severely at age 31 causing debilitating leg pain for over a year. At times I didn't sleep for days. There was no quick cure just a long road towards strengthening your core. Most people will stick their nose up at Yoga and exercise but it works. It just takes time and dedication.

I have one. It is NO more dangerous than how careful you are.
I am overweight yet can completely control the tilt and stretch with my hands & arms.

The base of my table is locked down.

less dangerous by 1/10th than when I jack up a car and change a tire.

we have respect for certain tools, it applies here. Don’t worry about the table being dangerous.

I love doing yoga and when I can do it regularly I feel significantly better. The scenery doesn’t hurt either.:D

I had a Laminectomy on L2 throughL5 in 2017. I just had three RFA's on my right side three weeks ago and the left side the month before that.
I go back to the doctor this fall to see if I'm a candidate for wedge spacers.
I also take Lyrica, Melexicam and Tramadol on the bad days.
I don't trust a chiro to start working my back. The laminectomy surgery they removed the back half of my vertebrae to access my spinal cord and my lower back is not as protected as before.
