Idle is currently set at 1000rpms and i have the idle screws out 2 turns.

is there an ID on the squirter so i know what size to increase if i do change the squirter?

You want to set the idle screws evenly side to side.
you want to open till max idle rpm is achieved in gear, then readjust the idle speed screw to the desired rpm in gear.

this is sounding like a canidate for tailored advance curve.
If you could raise the initial to as much as it will still start with 'fully warmed up', you could then CLOSE the throttle plate some and get a more IDEAL alignment of the transfer slot, THIS will allow a much BETTER tune of the 'IDLE QUALITY'.
What's involved is LIMITING the amount of MECHANICAL ADVANCE.=welding the advance plate slots up some
If you could tell us more about the distributor and wether you have some welding skill.

Yes,there is.
It's stamped on the side but you'll have to remove it to read it.

Sizes are 21,25,28,31,35 ....I think.

If you've got , say,a 28 in there,then go up to a 31.

I feel there's a very good chance wildcrazyguy's post above is spot on,but 1st try the shooter size as it's quick and easy.
