Hi, looking for some plastic pieces, maybe 2"x2". I need it to aid in re-attaching my dash lenses in my 69 cuda bezel. If im correct, you just can "shave" thin strips and mix it with a small amt of acetone correct??

    Thanks

A member on here used cassette cases for the plastic. I remember some pictures and it looked great but I don't recall which thread.

Steve, you can also use the leftover plastic from any car, plane, or ship model. The leftover trees you remove the parts from if you have any of those laying around.

          Steve
I repair grilles and plastic parts all the time and tried the shaved plastic/acetone and it works but is also very brittle after the stuff fully dries.
Go to the hardware store and buy a product made by Devcon called plasti welder, its a small two part syringe that you mix up the two parts and apply.
Best stuff I have found so far and its about $6

Just to give you an idea of how well it works
in the first pic all those 72-74 cuda grilles were broken in half and missing pieces including the blue one which is the grille hanging on my wall at the bottom in primer in the 2nd pic
          Doug

You don't have anything like Salvation Army, Goodwill or thrift stores up there? A CD/DVD case might be the same type plastic.

acetone works best on abs plastic.
go to your local body shop and grab some busted grill pieces
just test until you get the correct abs

You can probably find some peices at any buzy intersection. I know here in houston I observe signals fog lights and grill peices everyday.

I use Plast-Aid a lot. Mix the plastic powder with the solvent, wait a few minutes until it is a putty, and shape it how you want.

use a small piece of the current dash above the noise suppressor, there is a no/low stress ledge, just shave some small pieces. I use a soldering iron with a needle point and a few shavings and melt them back in then flatten against the holes it's worked for me.

Unless you like milky white plastic you wont use acetone on clear plastic.
A run or drip can ruin your lens.
