Just picked up a 72 Dart swinger. Body is in really nice condition, no rust except a couple of places on inner fenders under hood. It has the worst primer job Ive ever seen. It has a /6 and auto, column shift and bench seat. Interior's going to need every thing. Is a ps,pb and a/c car which I'm going to keep. Am in stage of looking for 360 magnum and a 727 right now. Haven't made up my mind on whether carb or aftermarket fuel inj. Now accumulating parts.

Gotta watch out about accumulating parts.
I bought my current '69 Dart about 12 years ago and started accumulating parts for the build. I now have a spare bedroom full of parts in boxes and have change direction on some things several times.
My Dart will finally be coming home from paint around the end of July...after being with 5 different painters. Finally found one who will finish the job.

Picked up a 98 360 yesterday, could of picked a better day. Rained almost the whole time, engine hoist tipped over in mud, but finally got it home. In the process of stripping off unneeded, will power wash tomorrow before i go any further.

Got a question. Does any of the bolts in the 5.9 go into the water jacket? I'm not pulling the heads.

Depends on car weight,, rear gear, tire size, engine output, cam duration @.050 & intended usage.

If this is a bolt in and run what ya got deal, a stock factory torque converter will do just fine. If your looking for a bit more performance from the stock Magnum, a factory 340 hi stall is approximately 2200-2400.

so if I have the factory flex plate I can run any converter.

No. A converter should have your bolt pattern. But there are other (larger) patterns available. Check with the seller/manufacturer.

Stall wise, what I wrote above applies.

the original converter is the right size and right bolt pattern, no weights on front but there is strip weight on the side of the converter. came out of 69 318 car. you're saying a 340 converter was neutral balance?
followup, bought the one from jmk i listed on transmission forum, on to next problem. just a little side note here, I had a very hard time getting that rubber hose on from intake to water pump. Just about got engine cleaned, painted and reassembled, will post pic when done.

              You’re saying....?

Let me tell you something here first and foremost. If I got something to say, it will be point blank and NOT elude to it.

              I never said that.
              I never hinted to that.
              I never suggested it.
DONT! put words in my mouth.

When you say, “What your saying” is a load of shit. I’ll freakin tell you. Don’t you freakin worry about that shit.

You assume or imply or me.
              “Go jump off a bridge.”
Is that point blank and plain enough for you?
There is no, “What your saying” involved there. Get it?!?

If, IF! Your wondering if a 340 has a neutral balance converter, the your answer is yes except the ‘73 & possibly the late ‘72. ‘73 is the only year 340 to be externally balanced and possibly late ‘72.

He wasn't implying anything... he just wanted confirmation on something. No need to get your undies undone in a hurry.

You are probably past this question already since you are close to reassembly, but in case it comes up again the four upper water pump mounting bolts should get some thread sealer during assembly. The two I am pointing to definitely go all the way into the coolant passages of the block, just like an LA engine.
I couldn't see into the two holes above those.

If you mean go back to add sealer, just remove one bolt at a time, add sealer to the threads, reinstall and torque it, then move on to the next one, and so on. It won't disturb the gasket if you do it one at a time.

exactly what i did. just a little note here, if you use van pwr strg bracket, the belt needs to be longer. just another learning moment.

a little progress to report, cleaned and painted block, new timing chain and gear, really needed it, replaced balancer, water pump and installed intake.

Lol I’ve accumulated parts for my 69 Dart for a dozen years myself. Bought the interior wanted to paint it Green. Now as time goes by I have about 10k in parts and I’m not sure what color I wanna paint it or if I like my fiberglass hood anymore.

i'm still accumulating parts. I never was a big fan of green but i think i'm going green all the way. rear seat is real nice but need to recover front. dash pad needs help as well as headliner, looks like mice had a home there at on time. car was originally yellow but i think i'm going one of those bright greens of the early 70's. i'm in no hurry, i'm retired and only feel like working a couple hours at a time. going to rebuild front end and add front disc's. right now pulling /6 and trans.

I like the green interior. Was just at a recent Mopar show and most the cars either had black or white interior. My 69 was originally light and dark green metallic bench seats. Dustin

You need the factory stock flex plate for the 98 5.9 Magnum, and then run a neutral balance converter of your choice...be it for a 727 or a 904. 5.9 Magnums are balanced on the flex plate, not the converter like our old LA 360's. You will have to rat one converter bolt hole out on the flex plate to get the older converter to bolt up. It takes very little filing to make it fit. Mark the flex plate and converter with a dab of paint or something so it's easier to line them up later. Hope this helps.
