Hi,

I just joined for a friend who has a 1974 dodge dart sport with a 360 and a torqueflite transmission.
The car is overall in good shape but has been modified so i came here to have some information to solve some issues.

We manage to get the electrical working, only the warning are inoperant now.

We have to questions about the car :
- we tested the rear ratio and we found 5 turns ( an a 1/4 ) of the driveshaft for 1 wheel turn. Is it an original ratio or a modified one ? Would you keep it ?

- the transmission does not shift as it should, my friend tells me that all the gears shift at low speed and very closely.
I noticed the there is no throttle linkage rod... is it our problem ?

Under the transmission i have this :

And to the carb ( now a 1406 ) :

And we will be interrested in buying the right stuff to get ot work.

Thanks for your help !

About your lack of throttle pressure linkage,,, improper linkage adjustment alone, will kill most brands of automatic transmission including your torqueflight. There is a horror story about Fords and a tiny bushing at the TV cable to bell crank attach. Failure of that 25 cent part caused a 1000 dollar debt for many owners in early 1990s.
Happy moparing

Ditto. Do not drive without the full linkage installed and adjusted.
Lift both wheels off the ground when checking the ratio. Checking an open diff with one wheel off is twice the turns through the spider gears. Sounds like 2.60:1 for the autobahn.

It looks so niceand with the stickers I would have guessed it was readyt to race.

Probably.
The exception would be if the valve body was modified or changed to a manual shift only. With these the transmission will be in the gear selected manually with the shift lever.
Otherwise it must have the throttle pressure linkage set properly.

Yes the 1974 seatbelt lock out was a big headache and complicated the system.
I see other changes under the hood that are worth investigating.

Having the starter relay above the gutter seam is unusual. It looks like the battery may be in the trunk?
If so figure out how the power is wired to the main feeds. Make sure there is some sort of safety to disconnect.

Fuel line connected by long hoses is generally not allowed by sanctioning bodies.

welcome
need more pics!
cool project.
as was said above, may be a manual, or even reverse body

Hi, the car is still an automatic. As an unexpected turn of events we contacted the former owner and he found the linkage. We are getting it tomorrow.

Yes the battery is in the trunk and we installed a general cut after the battery.
We replaced the fuse box by another one too.

We put the fuel filter far from the engine to keep it as cool as possible.
