I have a new gas tank for my 64 Barracuda. Ni-Terne plated, whatever that is(guessing a kind of galvanizing???)

Now my question. The underside of the car is coated in what appears to be the same black stuff that my son's spray in bed liner consists of.

Should I coat the gas tank in something similar to ward off rusting, or just prime it and paint it, or just leave it as is??

What is best for the tank longevity??

Thanks

i always just put them in the way they come. my originals always looked good on the outside. it was the inside that got corroded on them.

I used the gas tank zinc paint that is available from Eastwood. Looks original, goes on easily and has not rusted yeat after 5 years under the car. Good luck with your project, Geof

didn't paint mine, not worried.

Well, 2 schools of thought.

1. Road salt, Pittsburgh uses tons of it.

2,, Road salt, why worry, this car is NEVER going to see the road in the winter, anyways!!!

So I guess it is just a personal preference thing, but I've never thought of it either way.
