I recently retired and plan on building models of some of my former cars. I haven't built a model since I was a teenager. Here are pictures of three of my cars and the kits I have picked up to try and reproduce them.

The Hemi Under Glass will supply the 66 body complete with wheel wells radiused for slicks, while the 65 will supply the chassis and small block engine

The 69 kit is a big block, with some custom accessories that I should be able to adapt.

The 66 Charger is a hemi, so the 71 Charger will provide the big block wedge complete with dual snorkel air cleaner.

Not sure how soon I will get started as golf season is here. My neighbour has built a basement full of Nascar cars, so I will be relying on his advice as I get started.

I've got bad news on the 65 Barracuda.
It has a hood that opens and a fairly detailed fire wall, but there is no engine included!
The bottom of the engine is molded into the chassis.

I've got at least a dozen kits that I have yet to get around to, last one was probably 10 years ago, either a 71 HemiCuda convertible (Nash Bridges), or a 71 Duster, can't recall which was last.

Another thing...
They are selling 3d printed model car engines on Ebay. I haven't searched for a small block, but I bought a cross ram hemi engine for a 64 Belvedere I'm going to build. The detail will blow your mind. I'm going to use the small block from the Belvedere in the 65 Barracuda.
On a side note, I have six models and a bunch of paint in the closet to build when I retire.

I just bought it at a swap meet on the weekend and haven't even opened the box yet. It seems early Barracuda models are scarce. If there is no engine, so be it. Maybe I should put the hemi in it?

I bought that same 65 Barracuda. Yep, no engine, just the bottom view of it when you flip it over. I have a small block that's going in it from a Duster model I had along with front suspension pieces I may need, but I'm going to make a Road Rallye car out of it. I think I built the same Cross Ram Hemi that Private Idaho has. The detail is awesome & it's a challenging build too.

What Belvedere kit has a small block?

Yes, 65 Barracudas are extremely rare and pricey.

I have a plastiic compartment storage box,
and it's full of all the parts not used in other builds
it comes in handy when some kits are poor detail
also you may consider picking up some of the styrene sheets
I have some diamond plate, and flat stuff. nice for fillin' gaps,
and making details like ECU boxes, battery trays, etc
enjoy building! it's great fun
my 2 engine cuda slot car
roll cage is from a nascar kit

My buddy who builds the Nascar models came over today. He made me a snorkel scoop for my 66 race car. I think it looks great. I mentioned that the 65 model doesn't come with an engine and he says he probably one left over from a Nascar Daytona kit that could be built with either a hemi or a 305 small block.

Go with the small block for the 65 Barracuda. After I finish the car I'm building now for a Ford friend, a 71 429 Mach-1, I'm going to start on the Barracuda. If I remember to, I'll take some in-progress pics & post them, along with the finished product of course.

Hope your going to replicate the fender dent, Dave. That's how I knew it was yours I was looking at.

have y'all seen the "barn find" dioramas,

it would be fun to build one of those if you actually rescued the car

a before/after pair

I opened the 65 and 66 kits and tried some things. The hood on the 66 hemi under glass kit does not open. The 65 kit has an opening hood but no engine. The chassis from the 65 fits the 66 with minor tweaking. The suspension is incredibly detailed and the plug with the oil pan (a slant 6 by the way) is separate from the K member, so it will be easy to insert an engine in there, visible from below. I may even be able to use the headers from the 66 to replicate my fender wells. Lastly I just had to try the snorkel scoop on there.

same here, recently retired, started building models, going to build a few till i get a little better then build a few of my real cars over the years,,,the 65 barracuda model is NOT RARE its just been re-released,first time since the original in 1965,ive been waiting for this kit for years,i too have collected enough kits for parts plus ill need some from the model aftermarket,to build a copy of my prostreet 66 barracuda, just FYI, the rumor is testors model paints made by rustolem are going away, the next rumor is tamiya the perferred model spray paint will not be available in the us after some tiem in 2027,none of them are cheap, and will get more expensive sooer or later before they disappear,,,

I think I'll stock up on the Tamiya spray paint before any of this happens. It's not like it won't get used. :) Thanks for the heads-up fstfish66!

I heard the same thing from my buddy, so I bought the paint I would need for these projects. The shelves at the hobby shop were half empty. I bought some primer so I can use actual automotive touch up paint I had mixed for the 69 Cuda and the Charger.

no problem, i learned this thru the model pages on face book, and thru a very large hobby shop i recently found that is closing due to retirement,,,i really dont want to get in to air brush painting, but if i run out of paint along the line i miht have too,,i too am stocking up currently, making sure i have plenty of tamiya and testors primer,,,ive been experimenting with other spray paints, krylon satin black seems to be great for parts and as an under coat its primer based, some colors need a dark base, also rustoleum metallic finish is a great base almost looks chrome, and makes a top coat brite, ill post pics soon dueing my 65 barracuda currently,

Here's a shot of the 429 Mustang Mach-1 I just finished last night for a friend who's a Ford guy. Only 1 picture came out pretty good but, it was a great build with excellent fit of all parts. Just a heads up, if you don't already know, test fit everything first because not all models go together as nice as this one & you may need to tweek some stuff to fit good.
Anyway, this is one of those that fit together very well. I wish they all did. I'll be building that 65 Barracuda next & will have to do some mods & stuff but, fit & finish seems pretty damn good on this one too. I will have pictures of the work in progress on this one as it won't be stock.

What's going on with Tamiya paint? I haven't built a model in years, but was just curious.

I lol'd
the only thing going on with tamiya, is that in 2027, for soem reason wont be available in the us, i have been told,,prices have gone up,bot sure if its due to not being available or tarrifs,,,,stock up if you think you will need some thing,,,,testors is supposted to be discontinued, but i heard this a year ago, old timers at rustoleum who make testors are retiring, there the driving force behind the model paint,,,im sorta new to the hobby, just got back after retirement havent build one since i was a kid,, ive been using some krylon paint and it seems to work great,,,
