New spark plugs and tube seals; washer or no?

I thought I heard something about not running the spark plug washer on a /6 with spark plug tubes. Is that correct? The plugs that came out had washers on them.

the theory is if you do NOT use the washers, the plug will reach further into the combustion chamber, resulting in better burn. I have no facts to back this up, but I do run mine without washers for this reason

There are two different plugs for different year /6's
I don't remember the year change, but one uses a gasketed plug, and one uses the tapered plug. You can't mix them, or just remove the gasket, it doesn't work that way.
