The complete Whipple package arrived a day after we got back from the Holley MoParty 2022. The natural (case only) will still be used for mock-ups.

Butch's is a 392 version of the DSR 1150 crate engine. He is working with DSR on the tune.

Something changed from the earlier pictures? Looks like the bypass valve was electronic in the first pictures?

What’s the back story?

Just curious.
the upper pictures (post 279) is a DSR 1150 which is slated for Graham Rahall and on display at the HP Tuner tent @ Holleys Moparty event, the last two is Butch's "Big Red" in my shop.

Great looking engine, too bad you have to cut the hood. I'll be following the build.

not cutting the hood.....the mock-up hood only has a hole in it because it was the hole for the scoop in the California Flash Duster. The hood was damaged in the tent bow-down at the 2019 Nats. A hood with scoop hole is a plus when checking Whipple clearance.

pictured is the correct replacement 1975 hood on 1975 California Flash Duster (luckily I had it "in stock", it came from this "Next Victim" Duster) , The damaged mock- up hood is an incorrect 73 hood....without the crash reliefs.

pay attention....there may be a quiz later.

Didn’t know there was a difference between a 73 and 75 hood. Guess I would have failed the test. :D

it clears....barely.

since these mock-up pictures, I raised the nose 1/4" and moved the engine rearward 1/2".

I did not either, after the car was done my younger brother told me I had the wrong hood on it. I said "what???" He pointed out the crush area of the 75 hood shown in the original CarCraft pics. When the 73 hood I originally put on the car got damaged, it was easy to justify installing the 75 hood (already dipped, primered and blocked) on the California Flash.

good eye.

The DSR has an electronic by-pass made to plug into a late models wiring harness. For the resto-mod version (ours) without the electronic by- pass function / feature, the by-pass is somehow initiated by vacuum. I will have to ask Mike @ Whipple just how that works.
