my helper good kid has a 14 ram 1500 hemi
i let the help use the shop at night ....just a beni for work for a a-hole like me
so when i was on vaca the kid put headers on it (old mani's popped the exhaust studs)
the kid has some good fab skills ,can weld good (better then me..)great attuide and work ethics )needs to work on procedures but knows when to stop and ask for help
so after he did the swap has an oil leak thinks he maybe melted the plastic valve cover
pulls the vc ....has a crack in the head running between #2 and 3 ....oh shizt
said he was using an air chissel taking off the mani ....hes going on vaca saturday ....guess he's not taking his truck ....would have stayed late to get -ur-done but have no idea where to get a head tomorrow

OUCH! I was able to make it out after a re-read. Guessing he had to use the air chisel to persuade the old exhaust manifolds off after it ran with broken studs. Got any pictures of the damage? Maybe @Oldmanmopar might have a connection that could find you a head. His son is a very much good engine machine equipment operator.

He needs a head today! Ain’t nobody got time for grammar in a time like this!
I would start by calling machine shops and junkyards first thing. Machine shops might have something that wasn’t picked up or have a decent core laying around.

He was doing the exhaust manifolds
Must have hit the head with an air chisel
Thought it was just the valve cover till went to change it last night I was there late finishing a job when he saw the crack
Not going to find a head today
So not much we can do....

Air chisel hit or the head is cracked? Either way the head sadly has to come off. There are a few at the junkyard or used engine. I’ve tried welding those cracks at my shop in CT but that aluminum is not happy. The weld held but the manifold kept leaking even after thick gaskets and a new manifold.
Sorry you are dealing with this.

The guy I helped just bought a new head (reman) from Jasper I believe.
Had it in 1 day. Gasket set came with it or maybe a discount. Not sure.
Also try car-part.com great junkyard part source by zip code.
Hope this helps.

I use car-part all the time
But would need to be shaved
He's going to n/c tomorrow morning
10hrs drive
He has a car
Think he wanted his truck to drive on the beach ....
Im booked for two weeks +
And going to be short a guy next week
One day earlier it could make it happen
But shizt happens so his truck isn't

By the sound of your experience with welding these heads, sounds like the crack could have very well been there before the air chisel hit it.

10 year old truck, time taking its toll.

Think he wanted his truck to drive on the beach ....
I would count that as a blessing then. I've worked on a truck someone drove on the beach frequently and got into the edge of the big drink with. After a very short time, they run a close race with plow trucks from the rust belt.

That was my 1st thought
But it's like 8 inches long and goes down by the valve springs no way to get there with the exhaust on or valve springs in it

So kid still has dreams
Hes going to cam it .......
I guess if the heads are off....
Some times I think I pay theses guys too much
