Oil pan gasket vs rtv

-
I bought that, and at high rpms the oil pressure would drop to nothing.
The tiny a-body bb pan didn't have enough volume for more oil, so I cut the windage part out.

Gasket held great for many years, until recently it started to leak. I checked the bolts to make sure they were secure and secured evenly.

Still leaks a bit, enough now to leave a tiny spot on the floor.

It's a nice design, flexible, two ribs running along and around the bolt holes, too bad.

Imo it's the pan to gasket seal that is the issue. I'm going for the, glue gasket to both surfaces approach, or just rtv.

I lost a 440 that someone else had put together because of RTV so it is a hard sell for me. It doesn’t take much to make the relief valve hang open so you don’t have oil pressure.

If you’re going to use it be careful with how you apply it, no big globs of the stuff it can and will kill your engine.

Exactly. It's not hard to use it correctly.

That stuff works good, but I'm surprised the woke LGBTQABCDERG1234567890 people haven't gone after it yet. Those bottles will probably become collector's items one day. Better get um while you can. lol

Nothing for a slant.....
Nope, but the slant's saving grace is, the sealing surfaces on the oil pan are all flat. They don't have "troughs" like the V8s do for the end seals to fit down into. So RTV works well. Which makes me wonder why someone will not come out with a one piece oil pan gasket. It would be easy to make it.

Whatever dude! Get over it!
& that bottle not collectable, it's too new!

On an LA engine I will RTV the split between the rubber rear main halves and then set it offset to the main cap gap between the cap and block then a dab of rtv at the main cap ends where they seal to the block etc.

I thought this thread had someone saying they used a Polyurethane calk for intake end seals & had a pic of it. Then I found nothing with a search.
Was I wrong & its on another thread, or did poster delete it?
I wanted to know what brand & P/N, as
most Polyurethanes aren't oil proof.

I now have a Pontiac & they have the same type of oil pan seals as the LA, post #62. The problem is, the rubbber does what rubber does...goes hard with the heat & leaks. Remember: all the gasket material sealing the engine proper is under 'attack' from blowby, crankcase pressure that escapes past the rings & looks for places [ bad gaskets ] to escape the engine.
I use silicon in place of the rubber so that all of the pan surface is sealed with silicon. I do not get leaks.
