Hey guys.

I am new here. I have a quick one for you. I have a 71 Scamp with a 318. I recently had a manifold, carb and ignition installed. Since then, I have my oil light on the dash on at idle. My thinking is that the idle is just a bit low. When it is not in gear, the light has a flicker and if I give it just a bit of pedal, the light goes out. When I put it in gear, the light is on but again as soon as I give it a bit of gas, it goes out.

The motor runs really smooth and strong. Starts up as soon as you turn the key, no smoke etc. The light never goes on at any other rpm. Right now I do not know what the idle is set at, rpm.

Thoughts?

Thanks a bunch.

First, check your oil level, if it is a little low the light will come on or flicker a bit. My guess is the sensor at the rear of the intake is bad or the wire is loose. I would check these and go from there. If the intake was swapped, chances are they bumped the sensor or wire.

and hopefully they changed the oil or were very good at getting all the water out before the intake swap.

a lil water pocket will make very lil pressure for the sender to read.

Let's not forget the oil sender!!!! Have you checked with a gauge, to see where the light is coming on?

They did change the oil but they did not change the filter. I was not happy with th oil they put in 5/50 so I just changed it last night to 10/30. When I did that, the old filter had a date on it. Busted! The oil level is perfect. I will check the wiring and the sensor.

What kind of guage do I use to see where it is coming on. I just wat to be sure i am not going to fry my motor. I am assuming as long as i have pressure at cruising speed I am cool. Correct on that?
