    My engine gasket set doesn't have an oil pump gasket. My new oil pump came with one but I've lost it. My question is do you need it?

    Good idea to have it. You can get some thin gasket paper and make one very easily.

      Nooooo don't use one, Just make sure both surfaces are flat and bolt it together.
      I have seen those gaskets blow out and you will loose oil pressure.

          I use them. Personally I've never blown one out.

              I've done both. With and without gasket, never had a problem. But, you can make one pretty easily......

                  I buy mine from this guy, his prices are reasonable, and his shipping is cheap.
                  Normally I pick up a 1/2 dozen or so at a time.

                  I always put a thin coat of #2 Form-a-Gasket on a gasket like that. Never blown anything like that out. I would prefer to have one.

                  flat on flat equals a good enough seal. Look at the Exhaust manifolds of a RB in a motorhome....none! The one supplied with my new pump looked like the receipt.

                  I've torn down factory assembled engines with and without them. I don't think it makes a difference.

                      My dad did 16 years at a dodge dealer back in the early 60's thru the late 70's. When he rebuilt a motor 318 or 360 he never used a gasket. He says never a come back!!! So after he opened his auto shop he continued to disregard gasket still never an issue!!

                        Don't use them anymore, never a problem here. Never torn down a factory motor (and I've torn down alot) that had one in it, even though I've heard people say they have.

                          Isn`t a small block pump on the inside or the engine ? Never messed w/ a small block mopar , only sbc.

                          They are inside the pan where oil pumps belong. Those big block mopars are some strange beasts with their exposed pumps and such. :D

                          There wasn't a gasket in my 360 magnum and I didn't use one when I rebuilt it.

                            personally, I like it being out where a guy can change it, or rebuild, or go bigger w/o pulling the pan. Oil filter up front , easy to get to.---to each his own-

                              BigBlocks have a lot of advantages compared to the small blocks;
                              The accessible oilpump, distributor in front, no stupid water in intake manifold, simple waterpump design, to name some.
