My wire between the ign terminal of the switch and the regulator looks like it has been hot. Its brittle and melted. When I run a 4 0r 6 gauge wire to the starter relay since i,m using a one wire alternator can I run a new wire from the switch ign terminal direct to the MSD box? A simple diagram would really be apreciated. Amp meter has been eliminated.

Yes, the small red wire on the MSD box goes to the ignition switch. The large red wire goes straight to battery power. There are diagrams on the MSD website.

where ever you tie the red msd wire into ...it must see 12 volts went the key is at start and went the key is at run...

those are separate circuits on a stock ignition switch...

if you used to have a ballast resistor...and now it is gone because you are using a msd...those two wires from the ballast resistor can be wired together and hooked to the msd red wire.
