I filled up my 2012 Challenger R/T the other day and realized I had filled it with 87 octane gas. I had about a 1/4 tank of 93 octane. Should I get some octane booster or just drive carefully and take a long cruise and refill when gets to 3/4 tank. Manual says 89 OK but 93 preferred. What do you recommend? Thanks

How empty was the tank when you filled up on the low octane? If you had some 93 still in there, you could be close to 89 anyway.

I agree that the computer will pull timing and it will probably be ok but these motors don't tolerate overheating so add 93 as soon as you have some room in the tank and continue to drive gently. If you hear any ping at all, back off.

IMG_0557.PNG Add some of this. Go to their website and they have a blend chart in pdf format.

Or locate a small FBO airport and buy some 100LL Avgas.

I would say no problem, blend it up when you are able. Manual says 89. You had 1/4 tank of 93 so you are sitting at 88.5 with the 87 added

At least you didn't put diesel in

With the new computers that control all the engine functions you will be fine. You won't hear any ping as the sensor will detect it long before you will notice it and make the necessary adjustment. Won't hurt a thing with only 1 partial filling.

            Stp octane boost.
            Entire bottle. No worries.

Just drive it. It will be fine. Be careful with octane boosters. Some don't play well with O2 sensors and catalytic converters.

Thanks to all for advice. I guess I'll drive gently when gets to 3/4 fill with 93 gas.

They don't play well with paint either...with some modern cars, it can be difficult (impossible) to get the contents from a bottle into the tank without a special funnel.

I took a cruise yesterday for 65 miles driving gently. Unfortunately the car averaged almost 25 mpg so I only got 2.5 gallons With the 1/4 tank I had when I filled it I think it's OK.

It will be fine, I accidentally put 87 octane in my 2012 Challenger R/T one time, I just ran it, no issues.

the factory suggests the higher octane fuel to keep the car at it's highest HP level, the only harm you have done is reducing your available HP for a tank full
