Bored. So I figure I might as well start a build thread. Ive had it for two years and have been building up to blow it apart and do it all. Got to tear it apart this past October/November.

Heres a little back story... Its a 1971 Duster Twister /6 3 speed. Originally from Mineral Wells Texas, where it was bought by an Air Force member who kept meticulous records. I have all documentation of him owning it up until mid-late 90s. At some point it came to Indiana. I had a 1972 Short bed chevy with a 396 I had built, and did some dealing to swap for the Duster. Its currently powered by a .030 over 360, with a purple cam (cant remember which one off hand), aluminum intake, indy heads, and holley carb, breathing out of Hooker headers with flowmaster knock offs dumped at the rear. All thats backed by a Brewers 4 speed, and an 8.75 rear with 4.11's.

The rear springs are B-body springs. They were already there when I got it, I have the #'s off of them, but thats all I know. Its a good stance though, little stiff, but I dont want to lose the look trying to get it to ride softer.

In some of the pics it has a glass 6 pack hood. The glass hood was on it when I got it. We were at the guys house pickin the car up and he said "oh yeah, I got the original hood in the corner if you want it." I sold the glass hood afer a year, and put the original steel hood back on. Ive went back to the original hood and twin scoops.

Other than the drivetrain everything in the pics is original. I did redo the seat covers, you can obviously tell the pics with the new covers. Its obvious why I went ahead and redid those prior to the whole build.

A funny first. During teardown we were having a heck of a time getting the fuel fill tube out. My dad stopped to take a break and noticed something between the trunk extension and the quarter. Heres what it was. I figure its circa late 70s-mid 80's? Turkey is still in there. It smelled horrible if you really sniffde it.:toothy10:

Still have some more coming....

A few after I redid the seats. Legendary did the covers, and I had a local shop install them. Turned out great.

heres the truck i did that was part of the deal. 1972 chevy shortbed 396 big block. it was fun but wasnt what i wanted after I got it on the road.

When I got it.

Wow been away for a while and haven't updated lately... the paint looked good and the body is solid, but it was well used. Lol. Every panel had a ton of dings the drivers side had a pretty decent dent in gje quarter, the tail panel had a nice outward dent in it, the roof had a dent, and the quarters had a few bubbles of rust starting to show. The pics do a good job of hiding a lot of that, you can look closely and see, but in person it was really obvious. My body guy put it best "the old guy must have parked at every grocery store he could find to ding it up like this"

Anyways got some more pics, ill post them up later tonight.

Looks great!!! Just noticed the funky orange interior. Thats really rare. I've only seen white, a couple green, & one or two blue. This is the first time I have ever seen orange and I like it.

Yeah I love the interior. I have actually seen a blue mr norms duster with the orange plaid interior. Sounds weird, but actually looked really good.

Looks good! Your doing a very nice job, keep up the good work! Can't wait to see it when it's done!

That paint turned out looking really good. It ought to really POP once it is buffed. Nice work.... L8r

Interesting interior, first time I've seen that. I like it :) diggin the paint too. This is what you bought it for? to turn us all high impact green with envy?

Thanks for all the components guys. I have to give credit for the paint to my body guy though. That is something im still learning. Just need something to practice on but didn't want it to be this car. I should be getting it back the first of this upcoming week. Then its just a matter of finishing the underside and slapping it all back together. Im planning on its first show to be world of wheels Indy.

Really nice car to start with, will be awesome after the resto. Digging the color/interior combo.
Here are a couple of pics of the only other orange car I've seen with the same interior. Original survivor that was for sale on here about a year ago.
