P/S BOX REBUILD ?

-
Yeah, I've done a few... PITA & hard to get anything more than a seal kit... Takes a couple special spanner wrenches... Not worth the trouble...

Firm Feel is in Vancouver, WA. Red Cap in Seattle is another rebuilder and both those companies have a step system for providing more road feel. The name "firm feel" was actually a Chrysler brand name for the power steering gears provided in cop cars. You can get it with that original upgrade or one or two steps firmer than that. Makes a huge difference in the steering response.

I used Steer and Gear in Ohio with a stage 1 steering box and it was an improvement over the stock box I had. The biggest improvement was going to the Borgenson box about 10 years ago. I've actually did a 71 Cuda and a 74 Duster with the Borgenson and very happy with it in both cars.

I’ve sent a box to Firm feel and did stage 2. It was good but the shipping was expensive. But do able. I switched over to Borgenson and honestly it was a way more modern “rack and pinion” style feel. Smaller, lighter and runs cooler as it is not as close to the headers on my 66 Barracuda.
If you can afford this route I highly encourage people to do it. But the firm feel is the next best route and a bit less money. Also they are a great company to deal with.

I’ve rebuilt two for W series trucks. One worked great, one had a sticky spot when it was centered. I bought another seal kit and had my brother go through the second one and it was still sticky. That one got turned in as a core. I have heard good things about Steer and Gear

I went with the Borgenson box too, money well spent. By the time you pay shipping it both ways, it’s more cost effective to buy new from.

I've used Steer and Gear in Columbus, OH. Very good people to deal with. I recommend them all the time!
