OK I am puiing my dash now as it is the last of the interior left......looking at the heater box and wiring, I dont think I want to put that mess back in there. I have seen the smaller compact heater boxes and there are companys that make wiring harnesses, my questions, 1. is the painless harness complete if not what other sub harnesses will i need? 2. is there a better(easier to work with) harness? 3. are the compact heater boxes enough for my car? this will be a toy that I drive in nice weather so a/c is not needed and the heater is more for if i need to defrost the windshield..... any opinions will be GREATLY appreciated.

you looking to just wire the heater or the entire car? don't the new heaters come with their own harnesses? most seem to use either classic or vintage air for hear and a/c. i'm told the smaller ones will cool a dart fine but when i called vintage they said to use the largest that will fit under there.

no, the entire harness. for the entire car. painless has a harness for mopar. 14 circut with "correct" colors for mopar. I would like to use a smaller heater to help clean things up under the dash. I am completely gutting the interior right now gonna pull the engine and trans my next weekend off. the car is going to be blasted to metal then repainted. my question is mainly with the wiring harness and what has been used with good results.

for the entire car i wouldn't use painless. heard too many horror stories about those. we just did an american auto wire highway 22 kit in my dart. very nice and complete kit that was easy to adap to my car. i went with the gm turn signal plugs, replaced the wire all the way to every bulb with the parts supplied in the kit and used weather pack connectors instead of the stock style stuff. ron francis is supposd to be ok too but i have never used their stuff.

very nice kit.

used their gauge harness for my new dash and gauges.

rebuilt some stock connectors.

went to the gm style plug for the column incase i want to go with an aftermarket column down the road..

if your gonna do it make sure you do it right. replace everything all the way to the end. make sure you have all the right tools, solider and heat shrink where needed. protect the wire properly. the cost of the kit is just the beginning no matter what kit you buy. your gonna atleast double that in supplies to do it the right way. and if ya don't have the tool and connectors on hand that ups the price also.. its a big time consuming job but in the end not really all that hard. the main circuits are cake. AAW gives you everything to run those. the adapting the ign, charging systems can be confusing but really not hard if you understand how they work. they both can pretty much be looked at as stand along loops.

it is. i'm pretty sure i can put you in touch with a guy that can get it for you a little cheaper too if you were interested. you can also order a trunk mount kit which gives ya extra wire to mount it in the trunk if you want. i did mine under dash because mine is used more as a family car so i need all the trunk space as possible for the stroller,chairs diaper bag..etc...lol

I would appreciate it, not in dire need of it right now, need to get the car painted first. I do plan on throwing the family in it and go out from time to time. no stroller but for sure an ice chest and chairs!!!! any leads of a custom dash? I REALLY like yours, i know its RMD? or something like that and they are now out of buisness....... anyone else make something simular?
