How much would a good paintjob cost if you were to completely strip the outside and base coat clear coat? there is minor body work on the trunk, front 1/4's and driver door.

You can get a MAACO job for 4 or 5 hundred dollars or you can pay $10K or more.

As a point of reference all the primer, base, clear and the reducers and activators to go with them for the paint job on my Barracuda cost a wisker over $800.

This was using topshelf Dupont Chroma acrylic urethane materials. You can expect the paint to be approximately the same from PPG or any other manufacturer. Also, the older technology paints like enamels will be less but they don't hold up as well. I went with the top shelf stuff because it's easier to spray, easier to fix if you mess up and generally requires less work after the fact (i.e., wet sanding and buffing).

The best thing you can do to save your self some money would be to remove all the trim, bumpers, decals, etc before bringing it to a shop.

The best thing to do is do ALL the prep work yourself! This will save you ALOT of money. Then take the car to the body shop and all they have to do it mask clean and paint. You can even take it MAACO and get a decent paint job out of them :-#
