Park Lights and Headlights 67 Barracuda Convertible

Yes, that was a special feature on the Baccaruda. On most other pre-1968 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, the parking lamps do not remain lit when you turn on the headlamps. For 1968, this was changed so the parkers must stay lit with the headlamps for safety (in case of a headlight burnout you still have at least some visible light on the burned out side of the car).

For anyone without a Baccaruda, this is easy to retrofit: remove the headlamp switch and unplug its multi-wire connector. Put a short piece of 18ga wire between from the "P" to the "R" terminals on the headlamp switch body, right down at the base of those terminals. Make sure the ends of the jumper are neatly tucked so they won't touch any adjacent terminals. Solder if you like. Then push the connector back onto the switch, on top of your new jumper wire which won't get in the way, and reinstall the headlamp switch. This will emulate the wiring setup of '68 and later cars that keep the parking lamps lit with the headlamps on.

Or if you don't want to pull the switch, you can put your jumper between the wires that go to those two headlight switch terminals, using the likes of a Posi-Tap (please don't use those fold-over-and-crunch "Scotchlok" type taps).

Just something to consider....

This also adds to the current being pulled through the switch when the headlights are on.

Many of not most of the headlight switches already have signs of melt at the feed terminal

67 parts book

I recall somewhere that the change to amber bulbs was a later addon but I cant find it right now.

Yeah. Thanks figured that. The parking light bulb for a 67 Dodge Dart is 1034. No “A”. So I assume that one is clear.
Yes, 1034 ad 1157 (heavy duty) have for long time been the "go to" standard for park/ turn and tail/ turn-stop lamps. And "A: after the part no. of either is of course amber

I have the bulb chart for my 67 Barracuda. It says the bulb for the parking lights is a 1034A. Is this an amber or clear bulb?
Amber, right from the start (not a later change), and that bulb is obsolete in a not-worth-mourning kind of way. Its successor was 1034NA, and the current version is 1157NA, though some companies have reverted to the 1157A number.

I use Crackleback's headlight relay kit for this reason on my '68 A-Body and '70 E-Body. I even upgraded to his relay kit for the '68's convertible top motor. Nice quality kits.

I bought 10 with the original type of coating from you - thank you, even if you don't like 'em. The GE coating was more thorough than sylvania's but I was just glad you had some to sell.

seeing the yellow reflection in the turn signal lamps is part of the fun, just like rearview mirror with its slightly convex funhouse effect. :)
