Hey FABO, I'm in need of some help with a transmission issue. Since I only know just enough about trannys to create trouble for myself, I thought I'd bring it to the experts.
I'm working on a 727 TF, with 2 issues.
1) The starter will only engage when the shift lever is pulled down about 1/2 way between P and R.
2) Car rolls when shift lever is in P.
First off, I'm wondering if these issues are related to the same root problem or not? Secondly, I cant seem to figure out how to adjust the rod connected to the shift mechanism on the tranny housing so that the park rod pushes the pawl.
I dropped the pan and the valve body looking for any obvious sign, but didn't find one. I put my finger in the hole that the park rod goes into and I can manually move the pawl over and stop driveshaft from spinning. But I can't get the park rod to do the same thing as my finger did.
All clips looked to be in place on the park rod, so I believe it is moving with the shift arm.
Is there anything simple I'm missing? I'd love to avoid a shop visit, and save some money.
Thanks for any advice you might have.
