I have a 69 Barracuda fastback that is a painted shell. Was going to order new parking brake cables for it but saw you can order a complete set with or without an intermediate cable. How do I know which set to order? Didn't know they came two different ways. Where is the intermediate cable anyway? Thanks for any help.

Do you have sub frame connectors? If so, stock ones probably will not work.

I do, but the left side has a tube in it let the cable pass through it. If you don't know what the car had from the factory how can you tell which set you need since apparently both configurations were used? Are there different brackets or can they be used interchangeably if starting from scratch?

The InLine Tube website link is useless. You can't get any info there.

        Hello 69_340_GTS,
The link was only for a depiction of the associated parking brake parts and NOT as a tell all guide. For that reason I added the contact information (P/N).
And seeing you brought up the point of "useless" possibly you could have added some "usefull" information in "your" reply to help "Our Fellow" FABO member in his quest to resolve his issue.
BTW, Say hello to Bill Mathis (AKA performance engines) for me.
        Happy Mopar:)

Been following along here. Does the 68 Barracuda even have a intermediate cable?

Mine is a 69 but would like to know from people that have one which setup they have. Would like to see a pic or diagram of an intermediate cable set up. Classic industries catalog implies car could have either but I have no idea.

I went to the InLine Tube link to see if I could figure out what an "intermediate cable" was. Could not find one picture or one listing of any cables for anything there. Therefore, a useless web site. So why post a link to it?

        I don't know Bill Mathis.

What I do know is that a '69 Dart has three cables, one forward and two aft. I'd like to think that a '69 Cuda is similar if not identical? System is a lot like this ('70 Dart pictured):

my 68 Barracuda has three cables, one front and a right and left side cable at the rear.

I believe I got mine from
RockAuto. The RockAuto website typically shows photos of the actual parts and is an ez option for seeing what parts cross over to different models and years.

My 83 D150 has an intermediate parking brake cable, it runs between the main front cable and the two rear cable and to the best of my knowledge is used on long wheelbase vehicles to add length to the parking brake cable system on long wheelbase vehicles. So a common front and the two rear cables can be used on vehicles with longer wheelbases.

I thought so. Whoever manufactures the cables came up with the "does not include intermediate cable" bs ans they don't know why. :BangHead::BangHead:

                    so does my 72 Demon.
70 may have been the change over year for adding the intermediate cable.

The Right Stuff makes the closest to the factory original parking brake cables...

The intermediate cable is the one that goes from the front to the rear where they split to a bracket...

I tried the NAPA ones once and they were a nightmare... Plastic coated strand where it can't fit in the rear parking brake lever unless you trip/strip some of the plastic off the strand... They also did not seem to be the proper length (one side the inner strand was too long)... The conduit for them is also plastic coated, where the stock originals have the outside conduit wrapped in flat metal strip...

I now use the ones from The RIght Stuff as I like the original style look and they go on without having to strip any plastic off...

For those not familiar with the terminology, the conduit is the outer 'sleeve' that the center cable "strand" goes into...

Ok so I need parking brake cable setup for my 66 Dart but I have an 8.8 ford rear with disk brakes, ant idea where I can get a kit to fit?

I doubt if you find something that fits right out of the box,
If it was me I would start with a rear brake cable that matches the 8.8 ford rear disks then connect that to the OE 66 Dart brake cable,, that is assuming that the Ford 8.8 rear disks have a cable operated parking brake system,,,

Post # 615 in the 8.8 thread for the pix of mopar/ford hybrid cables, and post #626 for the part numbers for the hybrid cables and where to get them. These are the long and short cables that I believe are used on 67-71 cars. I think in 72 they went to equal length cables on both sides. This is better than rigging something up that might fail in an emergency situation. The ends are professionally crimped on.
