I have an original dual point from my 273 Commando. Can you convert it to a Pertronix 2. also does anyone have or know where to find a rebuild guide/ instructions for that distributor (If I can't convert I'll rebuild it and sell)? It is just like the picture below I got off the internet.

Send it to @halifaxhops and he has a Sun Distributor machine and can curve it any way that you want....

I would not do that. That's an original CAST IRON HP 273 dual point distributor. They ain't fallin outta trees. I would buy a new reman, convert that and put a good performance curve in it, or just buy a complete performance distributor and leave the original alone. Pack it up and store it somewhere safe.

Ok. That is doable. I'll keep it as is. Thanks.

If Pertronix makes a fit for the dual point it will bolt in and require no mods, so you could restore it back. But I don't know. You need to contact Pertronix or get whatever they call a catalogue

I converted mine. You have to get the correct kit though, as most sites don't really list it by the distributor number for some reason. I had to verify which kit I needed by calling Pertronix. It ended up being a Pertronix 1 kit. I had to file one of the mounting holes a tad bigger to make the pickup plate fit properly, but, it was no big deal. It was a 1383 kit that I used on my stock '66 dual point.

They make one easy to install. Worth more stock actually. No advantage to doing it realy to flip it.

well, after reading the articles in this site, I finally got it right I call Pertronix because their Email doesn't seem to work and voiced that with my phone call, HOWEVER the sales person was nice to deal with !!! This kit does not have a magnetic stator but uses the factory points cam to trigger the module .

well no one seemed to post pics so here they are

That number is for a '69 340 engine with a manual transmission. Not sure they use the same kit as the 273 distributors. I have a couple of friends that have had problems getting the stock points cam to work properly with some of their other kits, mainly big block ones with the Pertronix3 kits. Also, if you have a problem with that setup, you can't just re-install the points and condenser to get you home. With the 1383 kit, you can.......and it comes with a cam insert that slips over the stock points cam.

I’d just get a factory Chrysler electronic Dist and a USA box. Screw that pertronicks stuff.

For about $40 more, you can buy a brand new Summit dist complete with Mopar type ECU & all necessary parts.

Using a Pert kit, you would still have an old dist with old cap & rotor, & possibly worn shaft/brgs.

Some of us want to keep the stock look. Certainly nobody is advocating using a worn out distributor to start with., although a bit of play in the bushings isn't as critical as it would be with points. New caps and rotors are still available too.
