Picking lug nuts for aluminum wheels

I have 2 sets and 1 set is 1" thick at the lug area. Do I want 1" or 7/8? I know the wheel won't sit tight to the axle/drum if it's over. What do you recommend? I have to measure the thickness on the other set.
 
These are unilug.

Yeah those require sholdered nuts, id go with 7/8" if the holes are 1" deep. That way the lugs wont bottom out on the hub before the wheel is tight, also the sholdered nuts should come with about a 1/8" washer. Not sure if the 7/8" is from washer to end of nut or from top of washer to end of nut if that makes any sense

Also are the wheels hub centric? If not id be concerned about running them
 
FWI, Cragar unilug washers I have vary a bit and are .160" - .165" thick.
A 1" shank lug may put you a little close to bottoming if I'm reading that tape correctly.
 
In my thinking....If I use the 1",if they have it is if it's 1" total and an 1/8" for the washer that would put me about 7/8 and won't bottom out. It I use the 3/4 with the washer it's going to have me around 1/2"
 
The general rule of thumb for thread engagement is 1 1/2 times the diameter of the threads...

Example:

a 1/2" thread times 1.5 is 3/4". So you should try to get around 3/4" of thread depth between the lugs and the nuts, and still have the bolt seating on the face of the rim...


How long are the studs?

How thick is the rim around where the lug nuts go?

Do the nuts clamp at the bottom of the nuts, or around the base of the nut where the washers go???
 
1/2 20. I just found a 1" shank after about 10 pages on feebay before the washer is added. If the thickness of the wheel is 1" then a 1" lug with the 1/8" should be about right and won't bottom out. If I'm right?

I agree with kuda, id go with the 3/4" nuts.
 
The tip of the tape measure is loose and slides back and forth at the end so it looks 7/8" in the pic.

It's supposed to move, when measuring off an edge the clip slides out as it hangs over the edge and will move the thickness of the clip to keep measurement correct. Can you stand the wheel up and put the 1" mark on the backside and read the measurement easier? Looks 7/8" in the pic, if it is 7/8" you will need to go with the 3/4". Also as kuda mentioned 1 1/2 times the stud dia. Is all thats necessary for thread engagement. If your studs stick out at least flush with the wheel than 3/4" nuts will be plenty
