I had a Vega back in the 70s. Stuck a 350 Chevy in it. It was dangerous. Never did replace the rear end so I had to baby it off the line but with that highway factory rear end it could go 170 MPH. I would get beat in the quarter but never in the 1/2 mile!!! LOL

I had a Vega and a Pinto at the same time in the mid 70's. I got real good at changing starters on the Vega and belts on the Pinto...LOL

Had a rental release 1972 Vega stick shift. Wasn’t to bad a car other than it didn’t have enough power to pull a fat girl off a stool. I did make the most use of the hatch back as I could.

In 77 I put a 302 68 Z28 engine in another Vega. Never could afford a good rear end. I went thru a bunch of stock rears.

I had a 72 Vega that I put a 350 in it after going through two stock factory 4 cylinders in 48,000 mi.
Twisted the frame, cracked the windshield and the doors wouldn't shut after a couple lively bursts down our local street, turned dragstrip. Then I bought a 77 Vega in 78 and that was the last year they made the Vega. They made the block out of a different type of aluminum composition. GM tried to save the Vega that last year and they did their best to fix everything bad about the Vega. In my opinion they did a good job. Mine lasted 10 years and over 100,000 mi. And no rust issues like the earlier ones, before I sold it. Your Pontiac has what they called the "Iron Duke" engine in it. Which was a pretty good engine from what I can remember.
                  Like yours a lot.
                  Steve

Back in 73 our class at tech school sleeved a original block with steel sleeves. We put the block in the oven and cooled the sleeves with freon. (R12 wasn't a ozone issue in 73') LOL

They make a small block header and motor mount kit for it. If you got it for cheap, that sounds like a fun way to go IMHO

Had a flat black, tinted out windows 76 Vega wagon when I was 18. Didn’t have a Cosworth, but the exhaust was shot so it did sound like a Cessna! Lol, had a lot of fun in that car.......

                                Enjoy, cars are great.

I like the color. My aunt had one when I was a not so huge shit. Silver with woodgrain. She drove the shit outta that thing. Ran great when the cops told them it wasn't safe to drive anymore. My Grampa had a body shop and auto sales. He'd go to salvage auctions and buy wrecks. Bought two Vega wagons. One hit in front, one hit in back. Brought them home to the body shop. Dad and I clipped them. Made one outta two. My great aunt drove that one for years. Little darker than the citrus green. Fuckin Vegas. Lol.

change available to affordable and that is why I got the 73 Hornet Sportabout that "someday I'll restore" and put a 360 4-speed in it.
                                      and the affordable Mopar with a 360 4-barrel 4-speed 4.10 Dana 60 is an 85 D250.

I heard several people talk about affordable being the case.
Well that is not the problem.
I searched for a couple years for a dodge colt wagon close to me and could not find one.
I don't know about other parts of the country ?
Not in the pacific northwest !

                                      Nice Nova. lol
To each their own. I wouldn't want to find parts for it, for one.
                                      A friend had a 74 with a 215 alum Buick. Was mediocre.
Another had a 72 with a 327. He had to subframe it and put a 12 bolt in it to keep it together. It then weighed at least as much as an early Camaro.
A guy used to come in to a gas station where I worked at the time. He would put 2-3 quarts of oil in it and get $1.50 or so of gas. It was so rusted, I don’t know what held it together. Steel is made to a “recipe “. GM purposely made sure those cars would rust.
It's amazing what junk GM (and others) would build when they had no real competition.
Sell it. Save your money and get something you don't have to apologize for.
                                      More junk from the General.
